On a rifle range? the M-16
In some god forsaken 3rd world nation and I have to kill somebody? A AK-47 wins hands down. Simple, robust, more common than toilet paper in most of the world. The M-16 series has it's cheerleaders. It's light, well made, and has light recoil. The M4 is nice for some troops but it has ben over issued. The short barrel reduces bullet velocity and hinders long range power in places like Afganistan where long shots are common. Thus the M14 has made a reappearance for it's long range knock down power.

The AK47 does have a bigger round but it also rather inaccurate compared to the M16 or M4A1. The M16 has the highest accuracy but doesn't have quite the stopping power the the AK has. The M16 doesn't have full auto either. The M4 is lighter and more compact then the M16 but because of its shorter barrel its not as accurate either. The M16 and the M4 are a pain in the *** to maintain compaered to the AK you can roll an AK around in the sand and it will still shoot. While the M16 and M4 tend to jam up getting double feeds and things like that..

The military channel did a show on the top 10 assault weapons and the AK was No1. I forget exactly where the M16 came in but the M 14 as i remember came in ahead of the M16. The AK and M14 both were rated higher because of the caliber of their respective rounds. The M4A1 is a scaled down lighter version of the M16.

The AK has a wider dissemination but the M4A1 is basically an m16 with a shorter barrel the m16 and m4 both tend to jam if not cleaned enough the AK has a rep of being indestructible.

AK-40 seven is an greater path. The M16/AR15 sequence is sturdy to boot, yet there are some flaws, commencing with the gas device. The gas device (to blow the bolt back after each around is fired) ports gas in the process the gas tube on good of the barrel and engages the "gas key" on good of the bolt team. the topic with it is that it additionally blows carbon and dirt in the process the finished housing of the better receiver which finally ends up in greater desirable failure expenses whilst fired in cyclic mode. IN older M16 sequence rifles the gas tube set on good of the barrel which led to it to warmth up and a few instances glow crimson and fail (as in explode). in case you prefer to spend some greater desirable money you will get an AR now days with a gas piston device that runs plenty purifier. The AK for the main section makes use of a piston/spring. Which keeps greater of the fouling and dirt faraway from the breach. history Channel had a chew on the AK a mutually as back that picked the AK as their type one million conflict rifle to boot. the two are intermediate cartridges so while you're in seek of for greater bang for you dollar choose for some thing that's in .308 or larger.

All assault rifles are a compromise. The best one I know of is the one that you never have a reason to use.
