Sounds like you like underdogs. People who go for the underdog are usually insecure and/or they believe they don't deserve anything better. Also, you may have a "mother" complex & want to make it all better. This doesn't work. No one can change anyone else.
I used to go for underdogs until I increased my self-confidence by working hard & getting ahead at work.

Opposites attract. But don't expect family and friends to welcome your relationship with open arms. I am white, British. I married 30 years ago a Cuban, hispanic. BOTH sides of the family, to this day, hate our marriage.
But we did not marry the family, did we?
