My younger brother has a weed problem and hes getting mixed grades As and Cs, but my older bro switched from weed to cigarettes and hes using it to get away from his university and family problems (to me they arent that bad) and it pains me to see them do this to themselves, I feel like they've destroyed the stability of the family, but my parents would flip out if they ever found this out, what should I do?

By weed, are you referring to marijuana cigarettes? If so, what's the difference between weed and cigarettes? I don't understand. But apparently both brothers have turned to drugs, and you're the one who's clean and sensible. You need to talk to a drug counselor for advice -- not to turn them in or anything, but just ask what steps you should take to get them off the weed. It shouldn't be your responsiblity so you need the advice of an expert who deals with this situation every day. And even if your parents flip out as you say, they still have a right to know what's going on with your brothers. So you should talk to them, too. It's their responsibility also, and you might get in trouble for keeping it a secret. Your brothers may hate you at first, but in the long run they'll be grateful for having a brother who cares what happens to them. And if not, then they certainly haven't inherited any of your good qualities and sensibilities. Good luck!

Well cigarettes are dangerous but they are legal, weed isn't so the most destructive situation would be that because he can get in trouble for it even though smoking causes cancer. I read somewhere that one joint is equal to several cigarettes.
Sounds like your bro's are just experimenting and your nagging them so they blame it on family problems? <~~~just a question
But I would address the problems with the family first then see what kind of resolution comes out of it as some grow out of this phase....where some go into harder things. I would start getting more worried about cocaine and harder stuff so keep and eye on him! Good Luck...

First things first YOU!! Wow, you really have high expectations for your family and I know it's good to want the best and the old saying goes hope for the best and expect the worst. Not saying everything will turn to heck but life sincerely will pose it's trials and tribulations and you need not worry yourself over others. You need to be good yourself, not perfect, just the best you can. Don't hide it from your family, hey they can probably help here before things get worse maybe...... but you shouldn't bare the burden alone either. Cigs and weed are both bad. Weed will get you arrested though. Theres other great nervous habits to offer your older brother too. Good luck and don't get too drawn in and go down too.

Actually pot is against the law and cigarette smoking is not, so it is obvious to me, that the pot smoker should stop. We all must pick our battles and cigarettes soon become socially unacceptable, in the business world, but pot is something that can lead to big trouble! If you can speak to your brother and he will listen, tell him you do not approve. Don't accept any excuses and one day you may have to tell your parents. It's this or having you parents spend their money on bailing him out of jail if he gets caught or wrecks the car. It is dangerous for him to be driving with anyone, especially younger siblings. It is not you place to police your brother, just offer advice. It is however something your parents should know about. They are the adults and they can deal with their son. Give him a chance to stop but only one chance. If you know it is still going on, tell!

unfortunately some people smoke weed as a social pass by or use recreational , but if your brother is addicted badly to weed then I would step in and get him help no matter what you have to make a stand, but if he is smoking cigarettes then that is not as bad as drugs but i would rather have my family member smoking cigarettes then weed. good luck

how is it destroying the family? you won't even tell your parents what is going on. they need to be involved as much as possible in this so they can help see what the problem is. please let them know because your younger brother will try something stronger and then you will walk around with the guilt of i could of done something sooner. good luck and please tell them.
