Sorry you had such inappropriate response but I too am not a professional although because I did Therapeutic Foster care for quite some time became familiar with mental illness and serious emotional problems because of abuse. and of course read a lot for needed to undertand in order to help. When a person sees people that are really not there and hears them speak when in reality no one there or speaking it is Schizophrenia and the most effective to still the voices and not have the people there is Medication.-why You need to see a Psychiatris-for the only MD trained and skilled and who can also prescribe the medications needed. For only therapy(no medication)can also see a Psychologist but lacks the credentials to prescribe medications. There is also a mental condition referred to as multiple peronalities where something horrible ,devastating happens like for example abuse and the individual in order to survive has the psyche create another person of that person that can handle the stuff happening (self protection) perhaps, and I'm only guessing for am no therapist, because as a little girl you felt bad that you couldn't stop perhaps you thought you were bad for why else would it be happening to you and this person that actual represents the abuser but this is difficult to figure out for so many things are kept in the subconscious and hard to understand with the conscious mind-why again I can't stress enough the need or you to see a professional/ As with me when something bothers me a lot or not feeling well it will bother me the most duroing the night either i have a hard time going to sleep for the stuff keeps going round inmy mind or I wake up very very early with he stuff on my brain and can't relax enough to go back to sleep. What does help to relax me is warm milk-heated but still comfortable to drink-heating the milk releases substances that motivate the brain to release endorphins that relax and makes one feel good enough where I can fall asleep or go back to sleep. I've also found that if stressful thoughts make me very anxious, stressed and did happen where I was having panic attacks and went to the health Food Store and got some Super Rhodiola -comes in capsules and also relaxes the mind and makes the world a little brighter. Perfectly safe for is a plant and there are no side effects. Also will not interfere with any medication. Wouldn't hurt for you to try( and can get at any Health food store)until you see the Psychiatrist for am sure any rest from the disturbing thoughts would be welcome. Wish you to get the healing you need,Rest,Relief and that you find Joy in your Life.

I am sorry about the insensitive and cruel individuals that you have come in contact with in Yahoo Answers. Some people just are natural born ding dongs and they will say anything to get two points to answer. I am not like that. I don't respond to people just for the points. I like to help those in need.

What you are experiencing is natural for someone who has been abused in every possible way. The imaginary people that you have created is a defense mechanism to protect you in times of trouble. Small children are more apt to develope these imaginary characters to provide them with comfort and a sense of love. I know exactly how that feels, for I too was abused physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually from my family. I had imaginary friends for years! They are safe, they are kind, they don't give you flack about anything.

As far as "labeling" it as a mental illness, I don't think there is a said "label". The best thing you can do is try to remove yourself from these stressful people and situations. Find a hobby for yourself. Surround yourself with positive people instead of negative people. Learn to accept yourself for who you are and learn to love yourself in the process. This requires a lot of time and patience and willingness on your part. Nothing will happen over night! It may take several months or several years for you to feel better about yourself. Once this happens though, you shall find that your imaginary friends will disappear.

Do some investigative work on your own, write down on a piece of paper all your pro's and con's. When you've done that, ask yourself if there is anything you would like to change about yourself.

Then on several sheets of paper, write down all your bad experiences you've ever had. Ask yourself if there is anything in there you'd could change. If you can't change anything, learn to let go. Harboring bad feelings and grudges doesn't help you at all it just makes you feel worse about yourself.

If you still feel frustrated and worried or concerned about your feelings, then I suggest you take your lists and talk to your family physician. He or she should be able to recommend someone who would talk to you. Whether that someone would be a pscychologist or counselor or a psychiatrist or even your own pastor. Talking about unpleasant events to a competent person can do wonders too! No, you will never forget what was done to you in the past (Lord knows I've tried), but you will be able to have a better perspective on everything.

Good luck to you! I hope you feel better soon. Just know that you are not alone in this world for there are many who have gone thru what you have. I hope I was somewhat helpful.

If what you say is true then you really need to see a professional. Unfortunately people always ridicule things that they do not understand. MPD is very serious and you should try searching some reputable medical websites. Make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. You may have a condition called Multiple Personality Syndrome which is rare but REAL and the church won't help you....only a doctor will.

I'm sorry about your bad experience. please know that there are plenty of us that appreciate good answers and seek important questions to provide help with.

I did a quick google search and though it seems like a "popular" subject for children, there is not much consideration to given the "condition" for adults.

I realized, however, that using the term: IMAGINARY COMPANION seems to result in better, more substantial sources.

I warn you: there are a ton of people with VERY strong opinions about this topic. Please be very skeptical, and selective of your sources.

Also, if you get the chance and have the availability, go to a psychiatrist (or a few different ones) see what they tell you...
As far as I'm concerned, as long as your two- companions are not guiding you to do harmful things to your self or others,, hey- the more, the merrier! : )

good luck, buddy!

I am sorry you have been treated poorly here, but I am not going to do that to you. I believe you have schizophrenia with multiple personalities. However, this is not where you need to get help. You need to talk to a psychologist or a psychiatrist, they will be able to help you with this and all of the other abuse that you have been through.

you are right it is not funny. I always believe that if you can help a person out go for it.l As far as with your problem I would go see a trained professional for it and if you believe in prayer pray to God with a sincere heart and he can help you out. He will not laugh at you or forsake you. Good luck.

You are not the only person who has felt this way. But that does not make your pain any less.

There are a lot of stupid people here who say stupid things.

They talk out of their butts.

Get the help you know you need, and don't worry about the dingbats here.
