My hair is naturally dark brown, it's wavy with some little curls at the end. It's fairly long, passed my shoulders in the back, and nearly down to my collar bone in the front.

I've never dyed my hair before, but my girlfriend is dyeing my hair black tomorrow. She thinks it'll suit me since my eyebrows are black already. What can I expect from this? She said it'll make my hair a little straighter. I'd like that

what do you think? I don't know much about dyeing hair

thanks

by the question i mean, what kind of side effects can i expect to my hair, as in if it'll be straighter, or curlier, if it gets dried out, etc

I'd say you can expect black hair

I've never heard of any hair colour that straightens hair unless, after the colour, she blows it dry with a flat brush. But it won't stay straight. As soon as you wash it again, it will be your natural wave.

I actually just dyed my hair from dark brown to black, too! It will depend on the shape of your hair and the type of color that you're using (permanent, demi permanent, semi permanent, temporary, etc) how much damage will be done to your hair. I used L'Oreal Natural Match in Natural Black and my color is great, but my hair dried out a lot. I've been dying my hair since I was like 9, though. If your hair is healthy, then you shouldn't have too much to worry about the way of dryness but be sure to use a good conditioner. I do not think that that your hair will straighten out, but there is a first time for everything. Use a shampoo and conditioner combo that is made for colored hair to keep your color looking newer longer.

What I recommend is only leave the dye on for about 10 minutes, so that you can experience what it's like to have black hair, but not have the problem where you'll get roots if you leave it on 25 minutes. I dyed my hair several years ago blue black, since then either due to age or the dyeing process my hair is much, much darker than the light brown I had. Overall, the texture remained relatively the same.

be careful and make sure you are sure! I dyed my hair black before and it was a mistake... very hard to take back if you end up hating it. Will dry and damage your hair and of course black is a very drastic color... instead of black go for a deep deep chocolate brown... its slightly softer and wont make your look so stark.

Even better spend 60 bucks instead of 10 and talk to a professional about your color choice and find out what suggestions they have... then have the Pro do it. A Professional dye job is much safer for your hair and they will customize the color for you.

your hair's going to be dark but it's not going to be that huge of a difference if you are used to having dark hair anyway. It'll be a lot softer, and possibly shinier. After those effects wear off it'll be super dry and you might experience a lot of shedding or split ends. Keep it moisturized is my only suggestion. I don't know if it'll straighten your hair out a little, maybe but i have uber wavy hair and it's always uber wavy after i dye it. If she's doing the color in a box thing... Tell her to use Garnier i like that one best and I think their blue-black really achieves a more dramatic effect. plus they give you free conditioner for a week's worth of color protection.

Hair dye's absolutely do not straighten hair. Only perms change hair's structure. You should definitely use shampoos and conditions that are strictly for coloring and perming after coloring. You will no longer want to use regular hair products because your hair will have been chemically treated. Once you put chemicals in your hair you will need the nutrients to prevent your hair from drying out.

go for it you might like it black but do it because you want to not because your gf wants you to....I don't know much about hair dye I have only done it once with herbal essence highlights but I liked the end results plus herbal essence comes with this little tube of conditioning cream that you use for 6 weeks it makes your hair really soft and shiny...good luck....for straighter hair try a straightening iron such as the ones in the link below

Basically what my hair is like. It's wavy and brown, and I died it darker. It's still really wavy and I have to straighten it every day, and other than the fact that it's darker, it's basically the same as it was before. o-O
