Many scholars believe that the Adam mentioned in Genesis refers to a tribe rather than a singular man. Take note that Cain, after killing Abel, went off to the land of Nod to find a wife. Whether these people were descended from Adam is an often debated topic, so perhaps he did not commit incest? (which by the way was not a sin until much later). As a side note, the Adam Kadmon of the Qabbala refers to that perfect Man that was Created first, although this was a spiritual creature still in harmony with the Source.

It is a gross mistake even to believe that it was Adam and Eve who were the first humans on earth. The Bible did not say they were. It only says about the account of Adam and Eve as the first couple that started the line of the Jews and the other people called the Gentiles did not come from them but from the first people that came before them. You have to remember that Cain was so afraid when was being send out of Eden because he killed Abel. He said "Anyone who will see me wandering out there will kill me". Incest must have happen to the Jews in the times of Abraham and Lot when God told Abraham that his descendants wil be as plenty as the stars in heaven. He must have thought that they will come from his own bloodline.
Read again the the accounts on the sixth day of creation. There, it was said that God created all kinds vegetation and plants, all kinds of animals that move along the ground, birds of the air and creatures of the sea. Then it said near the end of the chapter that male and female he created them simultaneously. (no covenant except to rule over the animals of the earth and multiply in numbers.) See also the Book of Jeremiah 31:27 when God spoke about joining the house of Israel and the House of Judah with "offspring of man and animals"(these are the people He created together with the animals on the 6th day).

Both believers in the Bible and scientists who claim evolution say that the human race started with one human female somewhere in the middle east. This means that whether you believe in the Bible or evolution we are all descended from one couple whose offspring married each other to produce the human race. The difference is that Adam and Eve were genetically perfect and produced genetically perfect children until imperfections, because of mutations, started creeping in to the gene pool. In evolution the first humans were already battling imperfections caused by mutations.
So, why would I prefer evolution to the Bible story?

It was only under the Mosaic laws when incest came about...

Adam and Eve had many children. And Eve was the mother of all the living, as it is written.

Peace be with you.

Perfect man and perfect woman the DNA was better before the flood, better nutrition and environment. Check the ages out in the bible and you will see a degradation in the ages to Moses. When Moses wrote or spoke as directed that is when incest became wrong.

In the beginning, incest was not a problem. The consecuences of sin (sicknesses and deformities and early death) came on gradually. Even Abraham was married to his half-sister. By the time God gave his law to Moses, this would no longer have been permitted.

There is no need for an explination.... it was a neccissary thing... God makes the rules... The Law was not given to The Nation of Israel untill much latter... The same need applied after The Flood. Which was also before The Law.

Genesis is all a fairy tale... it was written certainly not to be taken literally (just look at the contradictions and discrepancies between the first two chapters), but as a tale of beginning, creation, new life, et cetera et cetera and all that pretty junk.
