No I fast because it makes me feel better.
Never for more than 10 days at a time though.
And check with your doctor first.
Love and blessings Don

Fasting is a way to focus on God's presence. A person who commits to a fast is very serious about it. Food is a very basic need in a human life, but a relationship with God is even more important than that. People who are fasting think about God when they would ordinarily turn to food. I don't know why God ordained fasting, but a fast, even a short one, can clarify certain issues or problems that someone may be having. Sometimes people fast for healing or other serious, specific needs. There are different types of fasts; some people eat nothing at all for the duration. Others eat or drink after a certain time each day, and still others will drink water or juice. Not all fasts are religious; many people fast for health reasons. I know that most people will think this whole subject is off the rails, but I have tried it and it is wonderful. Many, many people in the Bible fasted; the most notable , of course, was Jesus in His wilderness fast of forty days and nights.

The way to clean out sin is to stop sinning. What does fasting have to do with it? If I deprive myself of X, does that mean I deserve Y?
The root meaning of "sin" is "to miss the mark." If we keep making a mistake, do we understand how and why it's a mistake?

Nope. Fasting makes you hungry, unpleasant and not much fun at all. The only way to overcome temptation entirely is to give in to it. One man's sin is another man's life experience. Be a joy to those that surround and love you, and your personal experiences will become a pleasure never to be forgotten, and, of course, the envy of those others who would call you a sinner.

No , the only thing that can forgive you for your sin is God. You must go to Him and ask for forgiveness. When He forgives you , He casts your sins into the sea of forgetfulness and remembers them no more. You fast in order to offer a sacrifice to God. in the old testament, they sacarficed animals to show God they were sorry, or to hear from Him. In the new testament, God says to make yourselves a LIVING sacrafice unto the Lord. That means fasting, going without something to show the Lord He comes first. Fasting from tv, food, marital sex, anything that you enjoy , that you can give up for a period of time will show God that you really want to hear from Him, and that he comes first in your life.

It's not necessary to, as Jesus took our sins and forgives us.
However, in the Bible, ( and maybe this is what you are referring to?) there is a fasting day, called Day of Atonement. This Holy day without food or drink, is in reference to our sincerest form denying the body and human spirit to think of our sins, and to be sorry for them and to repent. It also brings us closer to God. It's not necessary, not required by God anymore, BUT it is a Biblical, Old Testament law, which some still observe to this day...

John I 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John I 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Maybe this is some kind of religious tradition you heard of? I only know of confessing sins to a priest.

Nope, I'm not a big believer in sin. I attone for the things I do that hurt other people. I learn from the things I do that hurt me. And I live my life in joy, without fear.
