Depends on which contry you're from.

Ask your local embassy. Apply by yourself, never through an agent. Apply by yourself shows you have nothing to hide from the authorities and is usually a lot faster.

Going through any agent, regardless of how long they been doing it will get lots of questions and take longer.

I was in Australia for awhile with a working holiday visa. That was good for a year, but only entitled me to work for a single employer for a maximum of three months at a time unless they sponsor me.

If an employer offers to give you work "under the table", say no! Sydney's minimum wage is very generous, and if you're working under the table you will be paid far less. There is no need for this because there are lots of employers who will hire you at a legal wage.

Also, no matter what the tax department tries to tell you, you are entitled to get all of your tax back when you leave. It is totally worth it to hire an accountant for that.

Have fun!
