Well, tattoo ink isn't toxic anymore (different inks used) so you don't need to worry about that. Allergic reactions to some colors like red are more common than any kind of actual infectoin. If you cover tattoos for work it shouldn't be a problem. Think about the placement and the types of clothes you wear. I'm going into teaching and have one tattoo now but plans for more so just think about everything but since you already have a job I assume, it is easier. As far as coloring, talk to an artist about an idea you have. They are the best judge of what will work and where on your body.

Anywhere in CA you have to be 18 years old whether or not you have a parents consent. You can go to Nevada though and get one at age 16 I think with a parents consent if you're really jonesing for one and aren't old enough. It's always worth the wait to get one legally though a lot of times if a shop will do one for you and you're underage it's because they need the business and aren't a reputable place to get one done.

Despite what other people are saying, I don't think you can legally get a tattoo in California (and possible the whole country) if you're under 18... even if a parent comes with you. Most reputable shops will not tattoo someone under 18, or pierce someone under 16, even if it is legal in that area.

To get a tattoo anywhere you have to be 18 unless you have a parent with you then it ranges from anywhere to 14-18.

Legally, 18 if you don't have your guardian's permission. If you have a guardian with you, you can get it quite young. I got one when I was 16 and my mom came with.
