Its a big issue one like this. You could go for it, and maybe be happy or ruin the relationship that you have with hime, or a suttle turn down. Or you can be drown in the constaint thought of what could be and what he might think on the topic. so i will offer the best advise i can. That would be to look for any little hint on how he feels about the good old times. Example being somehow you get to talk about your first date and he smiles, or sighes. These are both signes of a memory he cherishes and could potentialy want to experiance again. You should however not really focus on getting the old relationship back, and instead focuse on bettering the friendship. This could lead to something else if he feels the same way. After 6 years you have a lot of catching up to do, so its perfectly natural to maybe go out to luch or a coffee. Even so bold as a movie is an opportune time to see if your friend feels the sme way. You must also know that while he is the same guy, people change and 6 years doesnt seem like alot its enough to change his entire veiws on life. What it boils down to is that you have to feel it out, You will know what the right course to take is when it comes time. Better your frienship and you could just find it happening before you even think about it.

Well dont pretend its not happening.

you now have 2 choices:

1) tell him how you feel about him
or
2) become really good friends and rekindle what you used to have.

First of all, why did you break up in the first place? Resolve that issue first. After that, if you are both single, go ahead and ask him out. Remember that if you do make a move, your friendship would be gambled. Make sure it's worth that gamble!

Become good friends, and if he wants more then let him make the first move. If your patiently waiting and he doesnt, then start flirting.
