While it would be ideal to have high grades throughout high school, the next best thing would be to start "lower" and then show continued, (dramatic, if necessary) improvement from then on. Everyone knows that sometimes it's hard for people to make the adjustment from middle school to high school, and that it shows up in the grades. Overall, though, you need to take the hardest courses you can manage, study/work hard, show a real interest in your work vis-a-vis your professors...and join some clubs and do some volunteer work! It doesn't have to be 5 clubs...but a couple that you commit to for the duration and eventually show some leadership in.
Be sure to ask your teachers for help if you need it!
GOOD LUCK!!!!

as quickly as I first study your question, i presumed you have been going to assert you got all C's your freshman year, and had finished greater advantageous on the grounds that. generally A's and a few B's continues to be effective! And, college seems at your usual GPA (the only that is on your transcript your senior year, that exhibits all 4 years of highschool) in making admission judgements. solid success! Kate

I think it really depends on the whole package. Get crackin' and bring your grades up next semester, and they'll probably look at it as a fluke.
Grades are only part of the package -- your extracurricular activities count for a lot, and so do your test scores (PSAT, SAT, ACT).
Don't beat yourself up about this semester, but use your energy for doing better in the next.
BTW, it may not be too late -- explain to your teachers that you haven't done your work up to your usual standards this semester, and ask them if you can do an extra credit project to help bring up your grades. They might say no -- but most teachers like to help kids, and they may be impressed by your volunteering for more work. Don't be afraid to ask them for help! That's their job!

Freshman year is when you start your GPA, so your grades are critical. High school usually is tough at first, it's something you have to adjust to.

Not much. They are more interested in overall grades and experience. Try to do better in your next years.
