High sugar content makes them especially attractive to molds. A good way to store them is to, first rinse them off then pat them dry. Moisture also promotes mold. Wrap them loosely in a paper towel then put them in a paper bag. Air does need to circulate, but not to much. Keep them in the refrigeretor, as far away from the freezer as you can.

Store them open on a plate or in a paper bag - not in a plastic box or bag, which will hold the moisture close to them. Also try to find a fairly open bit of the fridge so air can circulate.

Unfortunately they don't freeze well unless flash-frozen by a blast chiller. However, if you've got any that are pushing the date, strawberry coulis freezes pretty well - blitz the strawbs in a blender with some stock syrup*, sieve, pour into tubs (longer and flatter the better, as it helps them freeze quicker) and chuck in the freezer.

*stock syrup: put 100g caster sugar and 100ml water in a saucepan and heat gently till sugar dissolves.

Liquidise them and add small amount of sugar i.e. 1 teaspoon to 1/2lb strawberries, then pour into an freezer cube tray, put in freezer when set you can decant into a freezer bag/box and then when you need to use, take out what you want and put in either drinks or what ever recipe you are using cutting back a little on liquid content.

BIn them they are bloody horrible anyway!! Ripe strawberrys only last a few days so if you want then to last longer buy ones that aren't quite ready to eat. In a fridge is correct unless you have a pantry (cool room) as the lower humidity is better for them.

Because of their high water and sugar content strawberries will not keep for long, so best to eat them and enjoy.

However, if you like you can freeze them - lay them out on a tray to 'open freeze' (freeze singly), then when they're frozen transfer to bags or containers, they will be mushy when thawed but will be delicious in yoghurt, with ice cream, fillings for cakes etc.

whatever you do, don't rinse them. that will only speed up the mold. I transfer to a plastic container and put in the fridge

Whatever you do don't wash them until you're ready to eat them or they will spoil quickly.
