There are lots of different places on your lip you can get pierced, so decide on an exact location.
Keep in mind that depending on location and the inital jewelry chosen by you and the piercer, eating will be awkward for a while and you will have to use a lot of care to not hurt your new piercing. Kissing is strange for a while, so be careful until you adjust to it. The same goes for brushing (since the brush head will hit the jewelry, its weird for a while)
The main thing is that you relax, listen to the piercer and keep the piercing clean. Expect the area to swell for the first week, but this should not last more than two weeks.
Cleaning is brushing teeth twice daily, and start using a new toothbrush upon getting the piercing (less risk of former germs/bacteria causing issues). You will have to rinse with a mouth wash free of alcohol and saccharin (I suggest Biotine) after eating/drinking/smoking. You should also wash the outside with liquid gold Dial and warm water. Use a wet q-tip to remove any crust that forms, but do not pick at the crust with your fingers (it will irritate the surrounding skin and can increase infection risk)

I had a lip piercing for 2 years and never had any problems with it. I had it done in the center of my lower lip and I LOVED IT. I never had any problems with damaging my teeth or gums. I think as long as you are intelligent about it you would notice if it began to cause damage and take it out. Of course you need to keep it cleaned really well. I just cleaned it front and back with a q-tip and dial soap (antibacterial soap)- It healed super quickly. Also, now that I have taken it out- since it was in the middle of my lower lip- unless I point it out to people- they cannot see it. People that I have known for a while that I haven't told about the piercing don't believe me until I show them the hole under my lip. So for that reason I wouldn't get it anywhere else than the center and close to the bottom of the lip because the hole I have would be very noticeable if it weren't hidden underneath my lip.
As long as you are intelligent about your piercing and you are a clean person- you should have no problems. Like I said- I loved my piercing and I miss it...it just becomes a hassle when you can't wear it to work :(

Don't listen to these people. Do what you want. It does leave a small scar that never seems to go away. Just make sure you go to a reputable piercer and do not try to do it yourself. I tried to pierce a girls lebrey once It did not go very well and looked really bad. Way of center and I had to do it again. I'm really surprised she still talks to me after that. Anyway facial piercings are becoming allot more acceptable at least where I am from and no one ever gave me any weird looks and I use to wear a 3/4 inch spike, and if you have to you can take it out for whatever reason

I really do not know any place to get your lip pierced, but depending on your age, I would wait until you decide on a profession because some places will make you remove piercing or you won't get the job

I would highly recommend that you not get a lip piercing. I got one about 8 year ago and have regretted it ever since. I only had it in for about a year, but it did significant damage from the back of the post rubbing on my teeth and gums. If you must have one, I'd recommend you get it off center, so that it's not rubbing directly on your gum line. It's also VERY important to keep it clean (rinse with Listerine) because the mouth has a lot of bacteria that can cause serious infection.

You can try going to BMEzine.com or Tribalectic.com. Also if you go to youtube.com you can see videos of piercings. All you have to do is make an account and then type in lip piercings in the search abr. Good luck.

Think hard before doing it. If u decide to pierce, make sure u go to very clean and reputable place. U would not want infection to hit that area.

places to go is broad because i have no idea where you are...
safest is always the doctor, but most tattoo piercing places should be just fine. They are just as certified. Look in a phone book or online. if you are in a city, im sure you've passed many nearby.
