It would not be a good idea, I think, to combine the giving of the engagement ring with Christmas giving. If you have no money left, that will be no problem for your GF, because the joy of receiving the engagement ring will greatly outweigh not receiving a generic Christmas gift. If you try to combine the two, it will cheapen and make less significant and enjoyable the receipt of the engagement ring. Just explain to her that you put all you could into the engagement ring. If she is the kind of girl who deserves your engagement ring, she will understand. Best wishes.

I would say no - an engagement ring should NOT play double duty for Christmas. However, it's true that engagement rings are expensive and you undoubtably have other people to buy for. So, forgo the (other) expensive gift - if she doesn't understand your budget, you don't need her!!! As far as the Christmas gift, go for something small, or nothing at all.

You can do so. Maybe you can buy her an inexpensive Teddy Bear and put a necklace on it with the engagement ring as the charm. You can be creative. She wouldn't expect a big Christmas present. The engagement ring is plenty. Good luck and early congratulations!!

Yes..... It's the best gift. Or after giving her the engagement ring give her another gift....and that would be a promise that you will be there for her always no matter what....
Good luck! Wish you'll have all the happiness in the world.

The engagement ring should not be given as a Christmas present.
You could explain to your Lady (congrats) that you really overdid it on the ring and could only afford a smaller gift perhaps, but that seems a little coarse. I would simply give smaller xmas gifts and be sure to make the proposal the main focus.

An engagement ring should be the best xmas gift she can ever get. Don't worry about it.

Unless she is an ungrateful gold digger she will understand. I did this for my fiance's birthday and it worked. I had the same issue - I'd spent all my money on the ring. But you should get her something little like a card and some flowers at the very least. I wouldn't just do the ring.

You can absolutely give an engagement ring as a Christmas gift! That's how my husband did it. Trust me - she will be thrilled.
