Why or why not? If the church has such control over people and their belief systems in Christianity then the church could or would only let you know what they want you to know. But if they have nothing to hide, then why does it seem like they are controlling (i.e. Catholics and birth control)? Wouldn't the whole truth be the best for everyone regardless? Even if it wasn't always what people WANTED to hear?

ESTHER, the bible was authenticated you say, who by? please dont say bible scholars, because they are instantly bias. anyone believing in the bible as a truth validating it negates it. for any truth to be undeniable you need someone who is objective not subjective. friends of michael jackson would say he is innocent, as they would, you see my point. would you trust a rapists mothers statement as to his harmless nature? no, there is something in it for her. just like the bible, if the person studying it has belief in it then they will find proof everywhere they look. regardless of error. just like the rapists mum would. blind faith is blind for a reason... no proof is needed to believe, and this is dangerous.

I believe that to stay in charge you need to sculpt any belief to fit your agenda. its what people do, and the church is not immune from the human emotions that make us weak, like greed, lust, envy... to say that the church is none of these is to be fully under its spell. thumbs down all you like folks, but truth is in the eye of the beholder, or the controllers of the system.

jesus was against organised belief, but the church makes millions per year without blinking an eye to jesus condemning the church for monopolizing on belief.

if you belief, good for you, but dont defend the church like a clone would defend his test tube. think for yourselves or live someone elses life.

belief is all you need, belief in the word of jesus, not the word of authors

The four gospels chosen by the early church were authenticated by them to have been written by the stated authors. Many others were written by anonymous people masquerading as apostles, and most made up stuff that didn't fit with what was known to be true by the early Christians. The four come from different perspectives - Matthew - government employee, Mark - historian, Luke - doctor, John,- preacher (and Jesus' closest friend). They are there for good reason. Many things have been added to church practice that aren't in the Bible.

Have you even READ the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? How about the rest of the New Testament?

If you had, you would see that the message contained therein is not exactly what people WANT to hear.

Here are some examples:

1Cr 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,* nor sodomites,
1Cr 6:10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Does this sound like the writers are trying to "tickle the ears " of their audience?

There are a lot of apocryphal writings out there, and they are pretty well available. Having studied religion in college and having read some of them, it becomes evident why many of them are not included. For example, the Infancy Gospel of Thomas discusses Jesus killing children in his youth. He is chastised by Joseph, then brings the boy back to life, only to blind the boy's father.

But as for them being hidden somewhere in the Vatican archives, I truly doubt it. Many of these books are available (in English, no less), just do a little digging around on the Internet or in a larger bookstore and they're bound to turn up.

They did it a long time ago to simplify, define and centralize church authority. Its a shame, there was a lot of good info in the other ones and a lot of stupid stuff in the ones we have. But even with all the gospels people would still probably get it all wrong and talk too much crap. You have to go your own way, define it for yourself and be a good person and try not to let all the wackos bother you.

Without doubt.
The Roman Catholic Church edited certain gospels out of the Bible because they were not "politically correct" for their time .
Other christian rites retain some of the "edited out" gospels.
Some of these gospels are not so hidden,
Look at the recent disputes over the Gnostic gospels & gospels of Judas & Mary Magdalene.

Galatians 1:8 -- Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

At key points in early church history, church leaders met and tested the writings to determine which should be considered truly authoritative. These books came to be called canonical, from the Greek word for a measuring stick (kanon); they later became what we today know as the Bible.

It was only in later centuries that a monolithic church structure told their people what they could and could not read!!

The concept of heresy has origins that meant different things to different people during different eras and times. Sometimes they hide things for what they think are good and unselfish reasons, and sometimes not.
Sometimes they let authenticity be their guide, and sometimes they let alleged lack of it be their excuse.
When you speak of the whole truth, you assume there are people out there who can tell what is fictional and what isn't and to what degree.
There are no such infallible judges.

Are you suggesting there is an organized whatever that has tricked us all?
Some churches do distort the Bible. They have added to it or made up their own. Bible believing churches couldn't get away with that. The Bible is studied by millions. Someone would have to have been able to distort it hundreds of years ago. God would not let that happen.
