Since it's a question, I assume it needs an answer. Issues of health concerns are best answered by a Doctor or other qualified healthcare professional.

I understand your frustration and the answer is yes.... and resounding NO!!! Okay, what does that mean? I have been diagnosed with bi polar as well, and have questioned it's validity on several ocassions because the brain is an organ like any other and it can get over worked, strained, pulled, attacked by a virus... etc. Between the garbage that's fed to our minds as children and the foods we continually feed to our bodies, is it any wonder that depression is at an all time high. We don't need a label/life sentence, we need education on how to work on the cause of the illness. That is where therapy comes in. If therapy hasn't "worked" for you... you haven't found the right therapist. As a "bi polar" I have been known to show signs of borderline personality disorder. This is the most anti therapy disorder of them all because you trust NOONE. Everyone's going to leave if I show them my true self. How could they ever help someone as hopeless and evil as me. Woh is me! If I say these things then what is the true problem? A chemical imbalance, or a hoard of well meaning people in my life that taught me to hate myself because they didn't know how to raise a well balanced citizen or they abandoned me when I needed them the most. "bi polars" rage... wouldn't you be angry if you were screamed at every day. "bi polars" have no sense of identity... would you fit in if nothing you ever did was good enough? "bi polars" are impulsive.... Is it possible that we were not taught proper decision making skills. Do you understand my point? You need to do some self study. Read, read, read!!! Start with "Psyco-cybernetics, the power of positive thinking, the secret and a bunch of others... Then go get someone to talk to.

If you are truly living with a mental illness, then yes, those things are essential to managing and controlling that illness. It can take a very long time to find the right ones though (meds, doctor, therapist). You have to be persistent and you have to really want to get better and you have to do what it takes to get yourself the help you need.
I've been coping with this bipolar (amongst other diagnosis) my whole life and it has been absolute hell at times. It took 14 years to find a therapist that I actually connected with (there is a required chemistry, I have found after seeing more useless therapists than I can count). Took 6 more years to get stabilized on the right meds...and that remains a work in progress.
Hang in there. I hope you find what you are looking for.

You are approaching this all wrong. They "don't work" because you are they one that needs to do the work. Therapy is about finding out what is going on in your mind, heart and soul and then working on that. YOU working on it. It is not a magic potion going to therapy, it is work.
And no, the answer is not always therapy, medication or both. Sometimes it is just learning to cope better or reading some good self help books. It all depends on what is going on. For someone who has a mental illness, reading a self help book won't really do the trick. Be honest with yourself, what is your problem and what is the best way to deal with it?

Yes Iv been reading the answers they all seem to think drugs or docs work in my experience they don't...The only thing i can suggest is to try and find someone that REALLY cares about you and talk to them, even when they don't understand they are still there for you,I no it doesn't seem like much but sometimes its nice just to get it out...If you feel like you need someone to talk to iv been through alot and i am hear so you can blow of some steam if you like...

As a nurse, I can not legally diagnose any condition. I can tell u what it sounds like and suggest that u see a physician. No one on this site can prescribe u any meds over the net, so u have to go to the dr.

Hi. And yes, the ultimate answer to each question here technically could be one of those things. Butyou know what? You can try something else. Try what works.
