Do you remember what exactly happened to trigger this fear? Was it a bad experience? Just keep in mind that when you are speaking publicly, nobody expects perfection. The occasional "uh" and 'um" is overlooked. And if you make a mistake, like drop your notes or say the wrong word, have a laugh about it. The audience appreciates little mix-ups like that because they can chuckle and feel comfortable. What really impresses a listener is a speaker who speaks from the heart---not somebody who sounds like they're regurgitating some perfectly written speech.
Really, it's just something that takes practice and most people are sympathetic. I remember hearing that public speaking is the biggest phobia...most people fear it more than death!

Man do I know how that feels! I never used to get stage fright, and then when I became a freshman (it's wierd how this was the same year for both of us...) I started getting tense beforehand. Not nervous, just tense. Then when I was waiting in the wings before my cue I would practically start hyperventilating. No joke.

So my advice: Of couse the obvious things: Deep breaths, water before you go on, etc.
But something people don't usually think of is that if you can do something, anything that you know well at the begining you will adjust to being on stage and the fear will go away so you can finish with your speech. For example, tell a story you like to tell or something you noticed on the way to the debate or something. It will take you mind off things. You will notice that a lot of people do it.

Good luck.

i think it's a mix of a lot of things. the pressures of high school, you growing older, all these things are "giving" you stage fright.

try to think back to the days when you did not have strage fright. try to evoke those feelings of wanting to perform and not caring what the audience thinks.

you can also try to attend acting workshops or public speaking workshops to try and "rewire" your body/mind so you can get rid of the stage fright.

good luck!

This is how I cope with it.

Whenever you watch someone talking on stage, you don't think too critically about what they're saying, and if they make a mistake, you brush it off and barely think about it later on.

The fact that you're on stage and grouping everyone together is intimidating, but just remember everyone's individual thoughts. They're not overly critical of what you're doing, and probably thinking whatever it is you think when you watch someone on stage by themselves.

Cheers,

CR

Just think that every one else does it. And if they don't, they are jealous that you are able to do it. If you mess up, who cares..the worst that can happen is they laugh at you or you look stupid, everyone will forget the following day.
P.S. I get it too

I think you can do it if you are 100% cofinit in yourself.
