He doesn't have much sweets and no caffeine and he gets even more hyper, especially when it is close to bedtime. He sleeps at around 9:00 and sleeps for 12 hours. When do you put your child to bed and how do you deal with their hyperness?
BTW, we wind him down before bed, but it's hard to dos o with him being so hyper. He's also lost interest in books, he used to look at books for an hour before bedtime.

When its close to bedtime, turn the lights down, turn the TV down or off. Also, its good that he doesnt have much sweets or caffeine, but also take a look at his intake of artificial colors. I'm not saying that he is, because toddler age is hardly the time to diagnose, but artificial food dyes have shown to increase ADHD symptoms. Just try to start a calming routine towards bedtime...the whole household gets ready for bed at the same time.

Toddlers do not need caffine or sweets to make them hyper..they just are hyper. A toddler is naturaly energetic and full of zest. I would be more worried if your toddler acted in the same manner as an adult..no so much energy! I work with toddlers all day..sitting quietly for more than 10 min is almost impossible. Just make sure your child always has lots of space to run around..jump..skimp..etc..they have to do that. Telling them to sit still or walk etc is laughable at the best! You might want to get a book on toddlers and devolpment to understand more. Your child is not sooo hyper..your child is a typical healthy 2 year old. The rouble starts if he is not active, then you know..something is wrong with your child.

I think most children get more hyper around bedtime. Especially boys. It's the whole "if I slow down I'm gonna fall asleep, so I can't slow down! I must keep going faster and faster!" If he's not interested in books no more try another quiet activity like coloring before bedtime, then a nice warm bath and say prayers. All very calming.

Does he watch TV or play with electronic toys? Do you have music on all the time? Any kind of overstimulation, especially constant background noise can really make a child hyper. Try doing away with all TV, electronic toys, and listening to music (except maybe calm music and even that not all the time) and see if it gets better.

Try calming the house down after dinner. TV goes off, use quieter voices, no playing with toys that make sounds or play music, etc. After dinner, it should be everyone getting ready for bed. Let him play for awhile with some quiet toys and then give him his bath. Put him in his pajamas and then let him play for a little while longer quietly. Take him to his room and lay him down. Have him pick out a story (maybe get a few more new books so he's more excited about them) and then read to him--even if he's not really paying attention. Cover him up, kisses & hugs, and then he should be good to go.

We have the same problem with our 2 1/2 yo. He goes to bed at 8 and sleeps for 12 hours with no nap - I've tried everything and was told that he is a typical 2 y.o boy that likes to learn! :) Guess we have to learn with them!!! Good luck!

My son's 3. and its very hard @ times. my suggestion, and it's probably not a very good one, is sit in the living room in the dark with the tv on. have him sit on your lap and watch tv with you. point out different things on the tv. like "oooh, did you see what she just did" etc. i usually watch toon heads or noggin with my son. finally he gets tired and falls asleep in my arms. i found it helpful
