Liquid water is easiest to swallow. Seriously, it is the water that is important, and it doesn't matter which brand or type unless you have a preference.

If you mean the so-called "sports waters" and drinks, that's up to you if you want to pay a lot more and maybe get some not so desirable ingredients. Some contain caffeine, which is a really bad idea because it is diuretic and makes you lose fluids. It also increases blood pressure. The cheapest solution is your own tap water in portable bottles.

Rehydrating mixtures like Gatorade may be useful if you are losing tons of fluids, but I always dilute them 50:50 with plain water, or alternate with plain water, unless you are not eating anything. Then you might need all the sugar and electrolytes.

Your best bet is to drink a good amount of water about 30 minutes before you work out and then continue to drink during exercise. If you are really working up a sweat with each workout, you may want to weigh yourself (without clothes) before and after to see just how much fluid you are losing and not replacing. A pound of weight is a pint of water.

If you just need flavor to make water more appealing to you, there are many things you can add yourself, like Crystal Light which even comes in little packets to add to a bottle of water. Another tasty, calorie and sugar free additive is TrueLemon and TruieLime. This is just dehydrated, natural lemon and lime juice in easy to carry packs that are good for 16 to 20 ounces of water. No carbs in these, but each one is 25% of your MDR for vitamin C.

A visit to www.truelemon.com will get you some free samples to try.

In summary, the kind of the water doesn't much matter, hydration does. Being well hydrated improves your perfomance. One thing to remember is that when you feel thirsty, you are already in fluid debt. Remind yourself to drink at least every 15 minutes during heavy exertion.
