It doesn't say what He wrote, but I have heard it said that He was probably writing down the sins of the people who were wanting to stone her. He had just said "Let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone". I think then He began enumerating their sins so they would realize that He knew of their sins.

The Bible does not say. But, I can remember watching a Billy Graham crusade on TV one time and he talked about this. Remember the situation, some people brought this adulteress to Jesus and asked if she should be stoned. Jesus responded that he that was without sin should be the one to throw the first stone. Then, He began to write in the sand. Slowly, one by one, all of the accusers dropped their stones and walked away. Billy Graham's theory was that in the sand, Jesus wrote the Ten Commandments. As He did, each of the accusers recognized themselves to be sinners just as that woman was. To me, this seems to be the best possible answer.

It wasn't necessary Mary. She is described as the woman taken in sin... Oh well it could have been Mary...
Tradition says that Jesus was writing the sins of those who were standing by to stone the woman... That's why each walked away in disgrace... Jim

Since everything is the present moment to the Lord, I believe he was writing the 10 Commandments on the clay tablet for Moses.

The Bible isn't explicit on that. It doesn't matter what he wrote. That isn't the point of the lesson in that verse of scripture. No one know what was written. just that he wrote in the sand. I would only guess that he was writing where is the man that was involved in this same adulterous act. But then I was'nt there.
That is something no one knows.

when you meet him in the clouds if you can remember you can ask him because it does say only that he was writting on the ground with his finger in John 8:6
This was right before he said he that is without sin cast the first stone at her. and then he stooped down and wrote on the ground again.
in verse 8: 11 he told the woman go and sin no more

i have heard biblical scholors say that He(Jesus) was writing the pharisees sins in the sand. this answer makes the most sence to me, even though it is strictly speculation. some also believe He was writing different scriptures in the sand.

Nobody knows. Some htink he might have been writing the names of some of the accusers- lovers. Others wonder if he was just writing anything to keep the accusers wondering. But the Bible does not tell us.
