Whats the point in giving someone a card for their birthday?
Unless you wrote it or its flowing with cash whats the point?
If you just need something to put money in, then buy a money holder card!
Unless the card is really funny or you wrote it, I dont see the point in giving it out at all.

Doesn't it suck to get a card on your birthday? Somebody spent $4 and signed their name on somebody elses poem and gave it to you. What a birthday present.....

People who give cards out, what are you thinking when you purchase one?

I get cards all the time...(btw)

What im saying is, how does it show that YOU care if all you did was sign your name at the bottom of something YOU DID NOT WRITE?

because they feel that they don't want to buy a gift or they probably don't know what to buy so they buy a card

i buy them for holidays, sympathy, baby showers It depends on who it is that's getting the card..... Ex: co-worker, aunt, friend's g-ma died. Birthday presents are for different people.

the card giving tradition in america. started in the late 1800's
just after the railways took over mail delivery from the pony express. This was an age when recieving a letter from distant friends and family was rare enough that it was almost a special event. In that time period almost everything was hand made clothing etc. So something store bought had a real cache of being a special keepsake. In this day and age though when mail arrives via computer in seconds and nothing is hand made
It may not make as much sense to us .

we do it now because its a traditional way of letting somone know
we think enough of and about then to remember that they have a birthday.

I only give out funny birthday cards, and only for people that I know I won't see (my in-laws, my friend in Dallas). If it won't make you spit milk out of your nose, it isn't something that I'll send.

Now, Christmas cards, I'll send the same boring card to everyone in my address book and just sign "love the family" on the bottom. No personalization, really, and only because it's expected.

It's just a nice thing to do to show someone you care about them. Believe it or not, many people who don't spend all day in the basement playing World of Warcraft actually do this all the time. It's called having social skills.
