My husband and I are invited to a Christmas Eve gathering at his Grandmothers house. She told us to bring a dish to pass around but I don't want to bring the boring meat and cheese or vegetable tray as I believe someone will bring that along.
Does anyone has some good appetizer recipies I could try for Christmas Eve?
If anyone mentiones alcohol,I'm sorry but that is omitted as people has health problems.
Thanks

I just tried this from a chocolate store in Denver and it is soooo easy. Get some large strawberries and bananas. Slice them to about 1/2" thick slices or a little more. Put them on 6" skewers, alternating a strawberry slice then a banana slice. Go to your baking section of a grocery store and pick up some of the microwavable dipping chocolate by "Baker's" - it comes in both dark & light chocolate. Then once you have your fruit skewers, drizzle chocloate over them. Allow to harden, display on serving tray and watch everyone flock to your dish!!

Simple, fun, different and wonderfully tasty. Plus it proves the theory that life is short and we should eat desert first!

This is so easy and always goes over well....
by some fresh tortorellini. I find it in the dairy case. You can by all different flavours and colours - green, red, yellow. Cook them according to the directions on the package and then thread them on satay skewers (available everywhere). Serve them with some marina sauce or balsamic vinegar and oil. They look elegant and are so tasty.

There are many varieties of this appetizer on the web as well.

I've made bread bowl dips, and a hummus dip with parsley oil that went over really well. The hummus recipe is at epicurious.com. And the parsley oil you float on top really makes the dish. Serve with pita chips.

Cheese-Filled Mushrooms
1 1/2 pounds white mushrooms
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
3/4 cup mayonnaise
Crumbled cooked bacon, to taste (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a large cookie sheet; set aside. (If desired, line cookie sheet with aluminum foil to save on cleanup.) Wash mushrooms thoroughly; dry and remove stems, hollowing out a hole where the stem was attached to the mushroom. Set aside. Mix together cheeses, mayonnaise and bacon (if using). Pack the center of each mushroom with a mound of the cheese mixture. Arrange mushrooms on cookie sheet. Bake until cheese is browned and mushrooms are shiny, about 20 minutes. Mushrooms may be stuffed and refrigerated ahead of time, then baked as needed.

Veggie Pizza
1 package crescent rolls
1 cup sour cream
One half cup mayonnaise
1 package dry Hidden Valley Ranch dip mix
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
One half cup fresh broccoli, chopped
One half cup green onions, chopped
One half cup carrots, shredded
One half cup zucchini, grated
One half cup mushrooms, sliced
1 8-oz. can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped

Spread out crescent rolls on a baking sheet to form a crust and bake for 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly browned. Remove from oven and allow to cool. Combine sour cream, mayonnaise and dry dip mix and spread over crust. Place vegetables over dressing and top with shredded cheese. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Cut into squares before serving.

Cocktail Meatballs
1 bag cooked, frozen meatballs
1 16 oz. can Jellied Cranberry sauce
1 12 oz. bottle chili sauce
2 TBLSP dark brown sugar
1 TBLSP lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in crockpot, cook 2-3 hours until cooked through and serve.

SO SIMPLE APPETIZER
1 loaf Italian or French bread, sliced diagonally
Salami
Cheese (Provolone, Mozzarella, American or your favorite) sliced
Tomato
Italian dressing

Top each slice of bread with salami, cheese, tomato and Italian dressing. Broil until bubbly. Serve immediately.

BAKED CHEESE
1 brick-sized chunk of Havarti or Brie cheese (or similar cheese of your choice)
1 can Pillsbury crescent rolls
3 apples, sliced (2 red and 1 green)

Remove crescent rolls from can and spread out on a greased cookie sheet or an ovenproof serving platter. Press rolls together to form a large rectangle, making sure that all seams are sealed well. Place cheese in the center of dough. Wrap the dough around the cheese brick until it is completely covered. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. A knife inserted in center should not stick, but come out easily. Serve on a platter surrounded with the apple slices. This is a quick and delicious appetizer! (We also serve this with crackers)

This is as simple as it gets and it disappears every time I take it anywhere. fill a crockpot with meatballs already cooked and pour over them a sauce made of a jar of chili sauce (not chili, not hot dog chili, chili sauce)and a small jar of grape jelly. No kidding, they are the best and the sauce doesnt taste like either of those two things.
