I have a recipe for apple dumplings. One of the ingredients is the red hots candy we have had on the shelves for years. Now I cannot locate them.. Are the newer cinnamon discs, similar enought to use? Or do you have a source for this candy? This is mixed with other ingredients to make a sauce to cover the apples that are wrapped in dough.

Red hots are basically cinnamon candy. So the cinnamon discs you described will substitute fine. But you may want to chop or crush them, otherwise they'll be too big.

I wasn't aware they pulled red hots from the shelves. Have you checked drug stores, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, local grocery stores?

If you just need the flavor, liquid cinnamon will work. It is very concentrated, so be careful. If you need the actual little red hots, they are in the baking aisle along with all the other decorations.
