my two famle cats have always got along... but just recently the older one has been real mean to the younger one. she wont let the younger one anywhere near her and just glares at her all the time... the younger one has resorted to only walking on the counter tops, so we moved her food up ontop of the computer desk. she wont go into the "cats room" where we keep the food and litter box. shes totally scared to be in the same room as the older one... i have no idea whats wrong with them. i need your help...

Your older cat is probably jealous of the younger cat. Do you give the younger cat more attention? If so, try giving your older cat some special attention, toys, and treats for a while. She may lay off.

She may also just be territorial. Older cats are set in their ways and don't like intruders. Try taking your cats room and if possible, dividing it into two areas, where each has her own litter box, dish, and maybe a bed or cat condo that is just hers. If they are separate but not too separate eventually they will learn to get along better.

Also, pay attention to their interactions. Maybe the younger one was mean to the older one, or steals her food, or did something to provoke hatred. Younger cats usually want to play a lot, and older cats usually just like to sleep. Giving them each their own "space: will probably benefit both of them.

You may have to accept that they will never completely get along. I have two female cats, ages 3 and 11. When we first got them, the older cat despised the younger one. We got them both from the shelter. We've had them over a year, and they have both claimed "their" spots, but they are still forced to be near each other. They didn't at first, but now they will play together and they care for each other. If one is in "trouble" (like getting a bath) and meowing for help, the other one will come in to see what is the matter. However, they still don't like to share us, and don't enjoy being close to each other physically especially if my husband or I is around.

They don't like each other !
No realy: sometimes, the older cat comes into season and finds a threat by the younger one, try to give both equal attention.
I realy need to know more of their everyday activities to advise.

Maybe the older one is jellous that a new cat came into his (or hers) life.Try to treat them the same, expeccially the older one. (is use to being the only cat).

For the same reason women do: it helps to restore their sense of control.
