29 years old, I have always been athletice, and in just about every sport. The past 2 years I was focused on school and work...moderate excercise only, I am now determined to get back into shape, joined a boxing club, but have heard comments about being to old to train for actual competition

ohhh you sould see the movie "million dollar baby"...
Well i think if you will be an amature boxer... well it is fine
but as a professional... watch the movie...lol
Anyways I think you will still bring your best in the game if you started 29 or 30 or 35... you just need the passion and love for the game...
for actual competition... yes you could still win im pretty sure...
...i know you will enjoy boxing...paalam!

Are you kidding me, it wasn't about five years ago that your average age of female Champions was over the age of 30. The age has been younger in the past few years do to the fact that more woman are getting into the sport but there's plenty of woman in their late twenties and early thirties competing and doing very well in this great sport.

If you have the will and desire to box then by all means box, don't let your tender age of twenty-nine hold you back. The worst thing that you can do is sit back and let some one tell you you can't do something. You'll be fine, get yourself a Trainer that you are comfortable with and has your best interest at heart and listen and learn and everything will be alright,

Good luck!

If you are only interested in an amatuer career, then my opinion is that your age doesn't matter that much. Only when you aspire to the highest levels of professionalism does it matter. But with the safety equipment employed by amatuers, you should be fine. In fact, if my daughter were to ask for my blessing to get into the sport at 29 (OK, so she probably wouldn't ask... I get it), I would drive her to the gym and even pay the monthly fee. It is an excellent way to get in shape. When you compete, you will have three two minute rounds. I can think up 10 sports much more hazaderous than amateur boxing.

Really, women take up the sport much older than men do.
many women start at your age or older, there really is not that many women boxing, so you could train for the amatuer championships, and another women may not even show up in your weight division, so you could be champ right of the bat.
as far as age, i did muay thai and boxing.
age does make a difference, at 35 i was way slower than at 25, though much stronger.
also, my recovery is much slower, i can be in pain for weeks after a hard sparring session, but when i was young, i'd be in pain for maybe a day.
though we all like to say positive things regarding aging, our bodies do not react the same, unless we use "flax seed oil, and arthritis balm" courtesy of BALCO.

A person can register with USA Boxing and compete in amateur competitions until they are 34 years old. The only downside against starting at age 29 is that you will run up against boxers who are younger and have more experience. Go for it! 8-)

Your age is just fine. I did not get started in boxing until I was 30, and now I am 37. I train with 21 year olds and keep up with them just fine. You are not to old to compete either.
Good luck.

girl you are kind of small, but do you know how to fight at all? and can you take a punch? also what kind of physical shape are you in(stamina)? and How tall are you? If you are 6 ft tall at 95 lbs then forget about boxing. Also can you stand getting a cut or something? all these are questions you must ask your self if you want to box
