As Vista is not yet on the market, it is hard to tell...
But I would say that if you have XP now, stay with it for a least six months. Give people time to work with Vista, find the bugs and the fixes before moving to it. Most companies and IT services wait at least a year before making the move to a new OS.

Vista looks like it will have some nice features, and boast that it will have better security (we will see if it is "better" or just different). But I have not seen anything in the limited testing I have done of it that would make me recommend immediately switching. (The old "if it's not broke, don't fix it" idea).

Right Now I think that XP would be okay since its going to take a while for every one to switch to Vista. If you really think about schools or any other business that uses computers will have to invest a lot of more money to get all the WINDOWS VISTA capable systems. If u want to look like vista you can download a lot of themes and icon packages. So for now we have to sit and wait for those of us who have the windows vista capable computers. Good luck!!!

I'd stay with XP for a long time. Vista has a ways to go and I wouldn't go near it until they come out with SP-2. Also, you need a state-of-the-art computer (dual core, high video card and really big hard drive and a minimum of a gig of ram) to run Vista. It won't be for everyone.

It depends on what you want to do!

At least XP has been out long enough for most of the major bugs to be fixed. (I have it on 1 system, specifically for video editing, with appropriate software.)

Myself, I use the program and system that will do the job best, where possible.
That is why I still use DOS for some things, Unix for others, Win3.1 for some, Win98SE for some (like this message), Linux for some, and CPM on a Kaypro for some. ( I have MULTIPLE computers!!!)

mac osx is getting replaced to so thats not better. linux is a good program but thats not the question now. vista right now has NO driver support so most of your programs and hardware won't work with it yet.
