I subsequently got the officers notes and noticed he made an ammendment to the ticket wherby he changed the section of the HTA that I am being charged with. On what grounds can I fight this ticket? Thanks.

Charges can be amended in court by the request of the crown. The only time a ticket will get tossed is if there is an omission (something left blank).
Traffic court in Ontario is free and you don't need a lawyer. However, you may want to hire one of those traffic ticket fighting company reps. if the ticket is serious ie. careless driving. They could tell you if there is anything you can fight. If you lose you will be found guilty and have to pay the fine (usually the one that was on the original ticket). Sometimes (at least here) the crown will let you make a donation to a charity (especially around x-mas time) in lieu of a fine and the ticket is dropped. It all depends on what kind of ticket it was, if there were injuries, property damage, school buses involved etc...

You can always refute ur ticket and bring it to court on behalf of how neglegent the officer had been while issuing ur ticket. you cant be charged for a crime you didnt do. but i dunno how successful ull be, good luck.
