My dog has bad dandruff. He's a Golden and they're prone to having dry skin. I feed him good quality food, brush him daily to distribute oils, and bathe him once a month with a coal tar shampoo. BUT, he still has dandruff! I've read to try using fish oil supplements to giving him a raw egg per day. Anyone know if any of these things work, or are approved by vets?

Yes. I can testify for the Salmon Oil. My Chi's skin was flaking like dandruff so I went to the petstore and asked about what supplement I could give my dogs. They suggested Salmon Oil. It was sort of costly $14 for a pump bottle, but they only get one squirt of the oil in their bowl of dog food daily. Cleared up the Chi's skin in under a week, haven't seen dandruff since.

I bathe my girls every week with oatmeal shampoo and regular human Flex conditioner.

Grizzly Salmon Oil with Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

Also, I feed them a fantastic dry food that is fully loaded with Omega 3 - Artemis!

Raw eggs only make the coat more shiny, and lead to oily skin if overdone. While I have never known this firsthand...Ive heard from vets that I worked with that coal tar shampoo is not appropriate for dandruff; it is more so designed as an anti-itch shampoo. but im not a vet. My Dane had dandruff and I would use oatmeal shampoo mixed with a little bit of head and shoulders. sounds wierd but it worked. you just have to make absolutely sure that you rinse your dog off very very very good. any residual soap will only make your dog miserable. i hope this helps.

I don't know about the stuff you are trying sorry but our puppy used to get a lot of dandruff. Because he was itchy from the flaking skin we added a little "Quit Itch" to his bath water and he has been dandruff free ever since. My puppy is only 4 months old and he is a short hair Breed (Staffy) but maybe if you can stop the itch the skin can have a chance to repair itself without the dog scratching at it. It may not work but it did for us and you sound like you are ready to try anything. It can't hurt to give it a try. We used "Quit Itch" but there are plenty of other anti itch treatments out there and the Quit Itch is basically just a type of Iodine. Good luck and i hope this helps.

Walmart sells a brush for shedding that is also good for getting alot of dandruff off of the dog. I started pouring a little used kitchen grease over my dogs food, but not much and maybe only 2times a week. This has helped keep moisture in his skin and calmned down the dryness but I would ask your vet before you did this - my vet said it was OK in moderation.

Hope this helps.

I just use oatmeal shampoo when my dog starts to get flaky skin. I wash him 4 times a week. He is a greyhound though so washing him is not a big deal. He dries in about 30 seconds.

in many circumstances people who're in seek of for domicile treatments for t hings, and make their canine stay in the basement, and characteristic a tendency to avert the vet for despite reason.. look an analogous people who don't feed stable high quality canine foodstuff. i could carry the canine out of the basement. Take him to the vet and ascertain he would not have any well-being issues. do not save bathing him, yet feed him a competent high quality canine foodstuff and upload fish oils to the foodstuff. could desire to be too that he has picked up fleas in the basement or another factor.
