Wehnever i goto salon, and say"make it short", they want it bald. But whenever i goto indian barbers and just sit down and say nothing , they do the right job. At salon, they ask me do u want #1,2,3 or 4 and i assume 4 is shortest. If i say 3 they make it semi- bald. So, which terminology should i use at salons to get good results like the 1 i get at indian barbers.

Actually the guards are 3mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm. A one being the shortest and four being the longest. A number one guard is actually going to have scalp showing and a number four is about as close as the stylist would get it if she used her shears and fingers.....in other words: finger length. If you are fair haired (Blonde) I wouldn't go shorter than a number 3 guard.

Hope that helps!

1,2,3,4 are the numbers that barbers and hair stylists use for the lengths for their razors/buzzers. #1 is very short/very, very close, #2 is a little longer and #4 is the longest of the buzz cuts. Maybe the Indian and American barber have a different idea of a short haircut? How many Indians have you seen with a buzz haircut....think about it...right?

actually a # 1 is the shortest next to being bald. When you go to the salon try having them start out with a # 6 and work your way down.Or just ask the barber what gaurd he uses or just go to the barber?

Stick with the barbers if you're happy there. But if at a salon...take a picture ...and do what I do...take a picture of a hairstyle a little longer than you want...they'll inevitably cut it shorter - and then it should be the length you want! lol

If you can get a pic of what you want or look through the books in the salon (yes the books have men/boy styles in them) use that as a base for your cut. My teenage son does that, he may pick the sides like on one pic and the top like on another. He usually has had good luck with that. If you do ever get the "perfect" cut that you are satisfied with, get a picture of yourself for future reference. Take a shot from all sides. If the hairdresser does an outstanding job, they get a good tip too! Good luck! ;)

tell them that you want it 1/2 an inch or 1/4 inch on top, and whatever length on the sides etc. use measurements.

Look for a hairstyle online or in a magazine that resembles on that you would like. Its always easier for them to cut it how you like if they have a picture.
