Because it brings up possible controversial truths that the church doesn't want people to see. Like that the church may be lying about alot of things. It brings Christianity into question.

The Da Vinci Code is a best selling book and a popular movie.

The Da Vinci Code is filled with lies and half truths about Christianity, the Catholic Church, and Leonardo Da Vinci.

Many people are taking this fictional book and movie as fact and are using some of its very strange theories to attack Christianity and the Catholic Church.

For the same reason that racist remarks are "just words".
Movies like the Davinci code affect how people believe in God.

You have to understand that movies, TV and songs are capable of making people believe in something.
Look at how many people believe in aliens when no one has ever seen any. Do you think it has something to do with the thousands of hours of alien and science fiction movies and TV shows?
It's advertisement for the author that people mindlessly believe without researching facts.

Do you have any idea how many people believed that garbage and stopped seeking God after watching that movie or reading that book? Those same people will turn around and say they don't believe in the bible because man wrote it. I wonder if they're capable of seeing the hypocricy in that.

I am not Catholic, and I'm also convinced that there is a lot of corruption in the Catholic church. However, any Christian is correct in being offended by that movie and the horrible ramafications it has on people's souls.

Ummmmmm like..... which movie might you be talking about?
The Davinci Code? or some other one?

If it's the Davinci code, they were worried that people might take it as literal truth that there was some scandal regarding Mary and the lineage of Christ. That is contrary to Catholic teaching, and would lead to heresy.

If it's another movie, there have been a few. Which are you talking about?

I don't know about the Catholic Church but for many Christians it's because so many people out there are taking it as truth! I mean - for real!

You have not idea how many times I have typed the word 'fiction' when people talk about the Da Vinci code.

I haven't seen it, though, and the only thing that has stopped me is because everyone tells me how long and boring it is.

I"m guessing you mean the DaVinci code. Here's an analogy my mom gave:

If someone made up a book or a movie about your father having a secret life with other women etc, and presented it as a fact (when you know he's a loving, devoted father) wouldn't it upset you? You wouldn't think it was funny.

There's also the problem that many people now believe these false teachings. The Catholic Church is hiding nothing. Please don't believe Dan Brown's lies.

Because it says loudly to the world, the Catholics conspired to change the word of God/Gospel. That's a nasty smack in the face . . . although most Protestants believe some doctrines are misinterpreted and man's will slipped in and other took the truth . . . accusing them of an entire conspiracty really turns the rocking boat over.

And although it is supposed to be fiction . . . I believe there are claims it is consdiered historically based fiction. Anyway, it got a lot of people thinking and researching and having to confront what they really believe.

Of course it is a movie and a work of fiction but it has the church so worried because it does raising some very interesting questions. And we know how dead set any church is about raising questions. It's followers are just suppose to 'believe', sorry no questions allowed.

I do not think the movie is more than fiction, but---------Jesus would have married and had a family, living when he did. Jews were very intent on following G-d's word to be fruitful and multiply. A Jew of his age, not married, well--------he'd be more than a little weird. The Catholic Church knows this, too.

That's an interesting phenomenon: People can literally believe in Da Vinci's code, without any proof, the same way they believe in the Bible.
THE CHURCH KNOWS THAT PEOPLE CAN BELIEVE IN ANYTHING.

God and Jesus are kind and forgiving. They won't care if you go see a movie that makes you think and helps you figure out what you dont want to and want to believe. Anyway, what would be so bad about Jesus having a family? Are familys sinful now? I dont understand some of these people. They can be so severe and hypcritical some times. We just need to open our minds...
