I don't care if every politician in Washington want's to tatoo 'I Serve God' on their forehead, but I was raised to believe that "Money is the Root of All Evil" (Paul of Tarsus) why on Earth do we put God's name on it?

Come to think of it, politicians are pretty evil too, I don't think I want God written on them either.

"Render Unto Caesar" would have been much more appropriate.

The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase received many appeals from devout persons throughout the country, urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins. From Treasury Department records, it appears that the first such appeal came in a letter dated November 13, 1861. It was written to Secretary Chase by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville, Pennsylvania.

Money is not evil Money is a means of exchange. What was said is "the love of money is the root of all evil", selfishness, etc.

To remind us of our culture, which was Judeo Christian.

Does it need to be there? Not really.

I agree with you on Politicians. I wish we could have a committee that would select a diverse group of successful people to to serve in the govt for a period of time. The people who want power are the ones who should least get it.

regrettably, no human being else who responded above me truly knows. So i will inform you. No - all of us did not remember on God even as this usa became depending No - surely, maximum of our founding fathers weren't even Christians No - This usa became no longer in accordance with Christian ideas, although the guidelines that everybody might want to be able to coach their personal faith or no longer practice something in any respect. No - The Pledge or Allegiance and our money did not initiate our with "God" in them. They were further contained in the 50's via pink Scare. human beings were frightened of Communism. in my opinion, it truly doesn't worry me that it really is on the bill and that i reserve the right to no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance. there are a spread of different issues to worry about in this usa than taking God off the dollar bill and the pledge. Taking God out of politics often, for instance, will be an really good element.

We don't put his name, just the title. If you look closely at the One dollar bill, we also state a New Secular Order, which rejects God as a factor in our country, so it's kind of a contradiction. Which ever, it should be up to the people really. I don't care who's name is on it if it spends the same way. It's not leading me to worship the Christian God at all.

I like what was put on an Italian coin once (issued by the Church):
"Love of this is the root of all evil." Maybe that needs to be on it instead.

Personally, I don't have a problem with "In God we trust" on money, the word "God" here is pretty neutral.

God serves, in this case, as a symbol of all that is eternal and secure.

Also, Paul said the LOVE of money was the root, etc...but, who cares, as Paul was a 1st C. frustrated dwarf misogynist, anyway.

In 1954, during the McCarthy era God was added to our money and our Pledge of Allegiance. It was supposedly a statement against Communism because religion was banned in Russia.

"In God We Trust" was absent from paper currency before 1956. It appeared on some coins earlier, as did other sundry phrases, such as "Mind Your Business." The original U.S. motto, chosen by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson, is E Pluribus Unum ("Of Many, One"), celebrating plurality, not theocracy.

You misquote, it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. If we use it for good, it's good, if we use for evil then it's evil.
