Sir,
My Father served on the Roosevelt, from 47 to 49, in early 50's it was hauled in and an angle deck put on it and was renamed The Coral Sea. This is Info from my Father. He is no longer in a position to remember any more of this but he also thinks the number on the side of the tower was 43 or 46. Perhaps you have a better starting point. I have my fathers discharge, it states, crossing the Arctic Circle for which he is a member of the Loyal Order of the Blue Nose.
I was never in the Navy, Army lifer.....go figure.
Have a good day!

USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB/CVA/CV-42) was a Midway class aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1977. The ship was launched 29 April 1945 at New York Naval Shipyard as Coral Sea and was sponsored by Mrs. John H. Towers, wife of the Deputy Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet. On 8 May 1945, the ship was renamed Franklin D. Roosevelt in honor of the late president. To her crew, she was known as the "Swanky Franky" or the "Rosey;" the latter nickname was probably the more popular of the two. Franklin D. Roosevelt commissioned 27 October 1945, Captain A. Soucek in command.

USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT is the fourth ship in the NIMITZ - class of nuclear powered aircraft carriers. The carrier already participated in several wars and operations: The Gulf War in 1991, Operation Allied Force in 1999, Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001/2002 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
