How far can a dr. push pain med such as Methadone with pt?

The Patient is a 28 y/of with severe Back pain after an inhury about 6 years ago, and 3 surgerues and spinal fusion later. Pain Clinic Prescribed Methadone 20Mg daily, after a while pain came back with severe Sweating and intense painn notified dr. and he stated Methadone having No Such side affects of any nature like that. HR in clinic 122BPM and 94/56 But there was nothingwrong with me. How is this possible?

methadone will NOT kill you IF you are taking it by prescription. However, sweating/hot flashes definitely ARE a side effect of the medicine. If she is still having pain, she very well may need a higher dose, or a different pain medicine. The sweating could be caused from the stress of the intense pain she is feeling. As far as a limit, for methadone, there really is none, people have been raised up to extremely high doses. However, one must gradually raise the dose, and then only just as much as is needed, all this being done under the supervision and direction of the physician. As far as the patient in this case is concerned, she may need to be raised to 30mg a day. Also, methadone has an extremely long plasma half life(12 hrs), but it can take awhile to kick in. It is possible she may need an intermediate medication for breakthrough pain.

Make sure this issue is mentioned immediately to the physician at the pain clinic.

methadone or any drug of that type loose effectiveness in time. You have to take more for the same effect. It is also highly addictive and if you miss a dose or two after your body gets used to it, you WILL sweat and you WILL hurt. Maybe it was the lack of the drug.

You are detox from the methadone everyday... Your not on a higher enough dose.. But why is Dr giving methadone... they is better drug around... See different Dr

be careful with that crap .get some good weed metadone will kill you .or go see another doctor
