You can just say, vanilla smells good. Someone who does not have a sense of smell will not appreciate any description of whatever the smell is of the certain thing. Describe it in analogy to any other sense.

You can say: If I will compare ripe banana and an apple, the banana tastes better to me. In analogy to that comparison, if we will put the smell as subject , vanilla is my choice. That would be my differentiation to put into an imagination of what the smell would be.☺

Well, obviously you couldn't use any other smells as a basis of comparison.

I'd describe it as similar to the taste of something sweet and creamy but more vegetable than dairy, with a bit of mild spice.

the same way you would explain the colour red to someone that can't see .you can't explain it because you have no refrence point . smell affects our taste as well so they experience flavours differently to others.
