There is one for rifles, one for handguns and one for concealed weapons (usually handguns). You have to be 18 for rifles, 21 for the other 2, no felonies, clean record. They do a background check for all 3. Probably no automatic weapons (I think those are illegal in all states), but your local court house can help you.

The technicalities vary from state to state in the U.S.. In those @35 states which have adopted 'shall issue' permitting, there are a few basic similar requirements:

- Pass a criminal background check.
- Attend a class on the legalities of defensive firearms use.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the safe handling of a firearm.

Or you could just move to Vermont or Alaska, where no permits are required to carry a gun.

First, you have to tell us where you are. This question appears in more that one country. Even if I assume you are in the US (which is where I am), the laws very greatly from on state to another. Some states allow concealed carry of handguns without a permit. Other require a permit to keep a handgun at home.

Ask your local Sheriff. If they can't issue the permit, they probably have the application. At the very least, they should know who does issue them.

Laws are different throughout the U.S. Contact your local,or state authorities. Basically, you must have no criminal record, go through a thorough background check, and qualify with your weapon.
