You can do it as long as they don't have a "no u-turn" sign. Some signage is marked with not only the left arrow but a U as an alternative.

turn your messaging to on in case you could't be sure this today. enable us to evaluate why it somewhat is that we place those signs and indicators right here in case you pick to greater advantageous understand their meaning. we at the instant are not interior the universal prepare of arising rules that make no experience. From the left turn in basic terms lane, take observe of the bypass site visitors travelling from left to precise, and then of the lane closest in direction of you, the the final option turn lane for bypass site visitors on your left. Now seem precise, do they simply have circle lighting fixtures fixtures or is there a eco-friendly arrow which would be shown even while the site visitors flowing for the period of has a purple circle? If for the period of their purple circle the eco-friendly arrow lighting fixtures fixtures on the comparable time as your eco-friendly arrow then this is because of the fact they have a risk-free precise turn on the grounds which you could in basic terms make left turns. i does not contest this value ticket, yet you may seem into getting a greater robust examine in place. yet while there is not any eco-friendly arrow and that they simply have a purple circle while your eco-friendly arrow lighting fixtures fixtures, then to make a precise on purple they could yield to you. you have the the final option-of-way and a no U-turn prohibition could be absurd. I contest all ridiculous tickets, mutually with this one for 22101(d)-VC. */end of Line.

Why did you get a ticket for it?

Only if you get caught, or cause an accident.
Actually it's illegal, and many times it's there because there is a dangerous intersection or something.

If the turn is too close to an intersection then it is illegal to turn.

It depends on the situation and the state you live in.
Here's the rules for California; you could find your state's DMV for your laws.
