Actually NYPD are such crappy shooters it takes 50 to hit someone 2 or 3 times. Sounds like someone let the situation get wayyyyyy outta hand.
Oops, this from the yahoo story (The car, driven by Bell, was struck by 21 of the police bullets after the vehicle rammed an undercover officer and hit an unmarked NYPD minivan. )
Seems our innocent groom ran down a cop, I would have empted on him for that right there. Nothing to see folks, another criminal has met his fate.

have any one of you hit a moving target in a high stress situation. lets see you all most get hit by a car, then identify yourself as a police officer, then pull out your gun, then hit the moving suspect in the moving car. some of you would be so lucky to hit someone once with 50 shots. and to the person who came up with this question. unless your a police officer or a lawyer you shouldn't really comment. the LAW says that if a officer believes that himself or an innocent bystander is in danger of seriously bodily harm or evenly death, that person is okay to use deadly force. If you don't think that a car coming towards you is not a situation to use deadly force, then my friend you are crazy.
lets put you in the same situation and lets see what you will do.

I know these punk cops.
I know their type.
I went to high school with a bunch of them.
Basically the great "NYPD blue" consists of the losers who couldn't get their act together after high school so they decided to take a high paying low effort job with the promise of 20yr retirement in exchange for being shot at and taking orders from the Mafia.
Ever get pulled over by one of these losers? They'll be quick to make you understand who's in charge. They've got the gun. That's all that matters.
They have no respect for the people they serve.
I'll tell you exactly what happened:
These cops were undercover so they walked around that club with the usual chip on their shoulder, but no uniform. The victim had no indication of whom they were dealing with. The cops did NOT identify themselves so as not to blow their cover, but also FAILED to act in a manner that would avoid conflict. Just poorly trained punks. The victims thought the punks who were being rude and aggressive with them were just a bunch of thugs. They got into words, and probably brushed or bumped one of them with their car.
The proper response from a bunch of thugs with badges? Unleash 50 rounds.
Anyone surprised that only 11 landed?
I hope they hang, but they'll likely just be forced into retirement - with a fat pension.

Next time you say the law clearly states something, cite the law in question. (You obviously know the exact statute. You did read it.)
I doubt you know what the law is. I'll take the self-proclaimed officers word over yours on the grounds it just makes sense.
BTW, no offense to the 'self-proclaimed officer', but I can't verify who you are anymore than you ca identify me.
Edit: If someone was trying to run over me with a car, and I believed shooting at them was necessary to my survival, I would shoot even if I knew it was illegal. Self defense trumps the law.

You are incorrect. There is no law in New York stating that the police cannot fire at a moving vehicle.
Check your references for the differences between state law and department policy.

It is not illegal for the the police to shoot at a moving vehicle. Dude get your facts straight before you post a question. The police did there job a follow officer was being assaulted with a deadly weapon. The club they came from is notorious for Drugs and Prostitution. And a sting op was going on in the same club. Do you know what happened in the club ? NO

Yes had it not been police they would be in jail, but of course others are not allowed to carry guns.
But when a police officer has been run over, a undercover police vechile rammed, and other officers in danger, yes they do have permission to fire at that vechile to protect thier life and the life of others.

WOW, did someone already convene a Grand Jusry and come back with a bill of indictment? I be willing to bet that had it been a civilian who opened fire on the Police and someone posted a diatribe like yours you's be screaming about fair play. you have no credibility.
