For a girl, it typically does hurt. Not "bad," but definitely don't form any opinions of how sex feels based on your first time! This is true even if you've used tampons etc before.
It varies from person to person and on your exact experience. Yet another reason why you really want to be with someone you trust who is gentle.
Potential "side effects" of sex are always pregnancy or STDs. There is safer sex, but there is no such thing as "safe sex." Yet another reason you really want to be with someone you trust...
You will probably have a little bleeding. Again, it varies from person to person. Maybe a little on the sheets, maybe just on the toilet paper later on in your underwear. You may still notice an uncomfortable feeling for a day or two until you heal. Best to wait a bit until having sex again, and sex shouldn't ever feel uncomfortable after that (assuming you have enough lubrication, either natural or out of a tube).

It is more of uncomfortable, but I would assume that it would depend on what has been inserted in the past.... If this is the first time anything has ever been up there, im sure it will hurt more...Just make sure its with someone that you love that will know to go easy the first few times...After a few times, there is nothing better.
The only bad side effect that I had was my period was abnormal for like 6 months, I was late and early all of the time. But it finally got back on course.

Lots of foreplay. Build the excitement and anticipation. The more excited you are, the more wet you should be. That will make for a nice lubricant. Have him start slow and easy. If you just jump straight into it, it will probably not be very good and leave you feeling really let down and a little sore.
As everyone above me pointed out, make sure you are absolutely ready -- should wait until marriage, but figure the odds, use protection. Inspect him to make sure you see no outward signs of a disease and understand that not all disease processes are readily visible. Take your time and don't be in too big of a hurry. It's rarely ever just about intercourse. Half the fun is getting there.

Yes - loosing your virginity will hurt. The bad effects are the chance to get pregnant, and the catching of an STD. (sexuall transmitted disease). If you are going to have sex make sure you have lots of lubricant (KY jelly) and that your partner does not have any STD's. After your first time, it hurts less and less eachtime. If you are underage, make a good descion about who, and when you are going to have sex with. I'm underage too, i hope you understand.

For females, yes, it does hurt. No, I don't know of any adverse side affects if protection is used.
