I love Poodles.
Did you know that they rank #1 in intelligent dogs.
The way it behaves is largely dependant on how it is raised and trained.
I had a girl and she was not yappy at all. The larger ones are very regal, and that is the poodles natural size.
The smaller ones are bred to be small and unfortunately I learned the hard way that this causes genetic defects such as collapsing trachea, which ultimately contributed to my precious girls early death. Now I am against breeding which goes against the natural characteristics of the breed.
Love your boy, and do not give anyone else the power to make you feel any way about anything.

I like poodles. I don't think they are the cutest dogs. I love bulldog type dogs, and a lot of people think those are ugly. But i know a lot of VERY smart, Very Good poodles. They make wonderful pets. I especially like the standard poodles, and if they aren't groomed ridiculously (that funny show cut) then i don't think they look girly.

I love them. I just hate the way people do their fur sometimes. It makes them look strange with some parts shaved and others huge puffballs. But they are very smart and nice. I like the standard poodles best. The small ones tend to annoy me.

I have had goldens all of my life. I got my first standard poodle 2 years ago and I was hooked. I just got my first toy poodle 2 days ago. I LOVE their personalities. My standard will stand perfectly still to be pampered and groomed including having her nails painted, but will tear around an agility course like nobody's business. My kids love her, and most people who meet her love her even if they previously thought themselves fond of poodles.

I know they aren't girly, I just don't care for them. Back 100's of years ago they were used for fishing. The poofy cut you always see in the shows always has bald spots and then fur on all of the joints. This is so in the colder months, their fur didn't weigh them down in the water and their joints don't freeze in the cold. Pretty smart, huh?

I have a toy poodle and she IS girly, but I have known standard poodles and they are not girly acting at all. They were originally bred as water retrievers. They are very smart. Mine is very smart too, but still, she is very "prissy". SPUNKY, but prissy! :-)

Who cares what others think? As long as you love your poodle, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. As long as he knows how much you love him that is all that is important.
