check for ear mites. Or, they could just be dry... how much water does he drink?

smell his ears and if they have a foul odor to them it's most likely an ear infection in that ear. If that is the case just take him to the vet and get some meds for him and that should clear up the problem. Now, as a preventative, after you get his ears taken care of you can get some ear powder at the pet shop to put in his ears after he's been swimming, been out in the rain, or has had a bath, to help keep the ear canal dry and reduce the chances of his ears becoming infected again. Also, about once a week you can clean out his ears with a mixture of white vinegar and water (diluted about 1/2 and 1/2 and just put some on a cotton ball and clean out his ears with that).

When a dog scratches at himself especially a lot, there is reason to be concerned. It could be anything from fleas but you say he doesn't have fleas, to dry skin . He could have allergies. It might be his food. Or it could be even soap left on from his bath. The only way to find out is first take him to the vet. They will either give you something to try or a series of things to try.
Have you put a cloth in your dogs ears to see if they are clean/dirty. Maybe he has an accumulation of dirt that he is trying to clean out and it just looks like he is scratching his face, only to be wetting his paws to help clean his ears. My guys clean at each others face and ears. There is no need for scratching, and when it happens I know something is wrong.

Most likely you are overreacting and it is nothing, but it can be fleas (generally full body though check does dog chew on legs) ear mites rare but possible, dry very unlikely unless you intentionally deprive your dog of water also unlikely because a issue with moisture comes dandruff and larger irritations quickly notable, thus most likely your dog is fine maybe next time your dog needs a shot you should check with a vet, also you can call any kennel because it can (if engaged with other dogs or recieved at birth) be a cause of hepatitus in some cases and thus a very early symptom that is treatable

He may have ear mites or an ear infection. Dog's ear canals are very long and you cannot see that far into a dog's ear. Take him to the Vet and get this checked out as it can affect his hearing and so forth in the future. It is a simple thing to cure if he has it.

If you only have had him for one month you should take him to the Vet and have him checked for ear mites. My friend brought a dog home and it gave my dog ear mites. They will give you some drops that will clear it up in about 10 days

Are his ears dirty? If they are dirty that might just be irritating him, or he might have an infection. You really should take your dog to the vet. But if you can't at this time, I think you should get an ear cleaner from your pet shop, that does NOT contain alcohol, and clean his ears. The directions should be on the bottle. Use gauze squares to clean them, NOT Q-Tips, until your vet shows you how to use them. Hopefully this helps. If not, i would just ask your vet. Good Luck!

fleas, in the onset, are very tiny and hard to detect. ear mites are very tiny and can not be seen easily. OR your puppy has dry skin. try vasaline and if that does not easy the scratching, your puppy my have bugs invading his skin. try a good flea spray on a cloth and wipe the affected area, careful to not get it in the puppy's eyes. or simply take the poor creature to the vet and get his opinion/treatment.

What kind of dog is it. I have a Peke and she is always rubbing her eyes and nose. ( I actually put" natural tears" drops in her eyes daily) Pekes tear a lot and the vet said it was normal for her to do that. Poodles and other dogs that tear will also do it.

My dog scratches his ears a lot when they're dirty or have something in them. I use a couple of tissues and rubbing alcohol. You can stick your finger down pretty far before you get to their eardrum so don't be too afraid to get down in there.
Also, could it be allergies...???
