It is disease that can make people overdo things. for example my friend has OCD and she worries a lot and always has to have something in her hands. My mom knew someone with OCD who had to have everything perfectly neat...when she vacuumed all the lines had to be facing the same way and she had her movies in order by the date in which she bought them. People with OCD tend to need a lot of therapy to try to overcome the habits the disease has forced them into.

OCD is within the class of anxiety disorders found in the DSM IV-TR. An obsession is considered to be ongoing and persisitent thoughts or impluses. The compulsion is the act that is driven by the impulses you are experiencing as a means to alleviate the anxiety experienced from the compulsion. For example, I read a case study of a young boy that could not go upstairs to sleep until he walked up and down the the first seven steps of his staircase 7 times. OCD is disruptive and can be harmful in a person's life ( washing hands so frequently the skin is raw and bloody) Cognitive behavioral Therapy is usually the best way to tackle and OCD.

OCD is basically a mental disorder that is characterized by repeating things unneccessarily because of unrealistic paranoia. Most times it's time consuming and other times (like with me) it's not as noticeable.
Sometimes people flick lights on and off, count to a certain number, wash their hands over and over.
Sometimes if I've been in a room for a while, I have the worst feeling that someone is in the closet or under the bed or somewhere so I have to check the entire room. After I leave the room and re-enter, I have to check it all over. When people try to shake my hand, I have to avoid them otherwise I'll have to SCRUB my hands over and over later because I have these thoughts that people have diseases. I have to close the vents in the bathroom everytime I enter because I think some is watching me. If I lock a door, I have to check it again every once in a while because I either think I didn't lock it or came unlocked.
It's really hard for me to tell if I do it because of my OCD or my ADHD. I was diagnosed with both. So, hey...

I have OCD - I am a checker. I hate having this disorder because I have to check, what I have just checked and check it again many times over. It is a 15 min. ritual to even leave my house due to the fact of checking taps, the iron (have to put my hand on the bottom to make sure it is definatly off), also the stove (must touch each burner), back door and finally the front door after I have locked it. Have to check the door knob over and over to make sure it is locked. Then on the way to catch the bus, I must keep looking at the front door to see if it is in a closed position. Wow, tires me out.

yeh there are many different types, i have suffered with an ocd for about 3 years now...my friend also has one but they are completly different..with his he has to clean a lot but with mine its more like i would have to touch things and have "rituals" before sleeping or leaving my house....it is a very VERY annoying thing to have but you learn to deal with it in your own way after a while!
