How 'bout that....As much as I love fried chicken and watermelon, I guess I've been an Afro American all my life and never knew it.

I (white guy) actually asked this question of a group of black pastors.
I was told that most black people grew up, or at least their parents grew up, in the south. In the south, the "party food" is watermelon when it is in season. And, "southern fried chicken" speaks for itself.
At one time, chicken was more expensive than beef to eat, and to have chicken at a gathering is a lot like serving choice cuts of beef today -- a real show of wealth and hospitality.
So, it's true -- black people do have a thing for fried chicken and watermelon!
Then one pastor asked me -- "What's with you white people and casseroles?"

I don't think that all African Americans like fried chicken and watermelon when I worked at mcdonlds I saw most African Americans would order fish sandwiches and orange soda. The only reason that I would think of is that they were brought up eating those types of food and that makes them think of family comfort food.

If you were really Afro American you wouldn't have to ask this question, you'd already know the answer. I'm "white" and I love fried chicken and watermelon. Please pass the corn bread and collard greens, I love those too!

I suppose you have never tried them. I don't think we only eat chicken and watermelon. I love mashed potatoes, with corn on the cob and apple pie - or chocolate cream. Just eating chicken and melon would get old after a day or so.
