Most definitely.
Even the bad things in life take us through a learning process, and give us the opportunity to seek God and trust Him more.

A personal note: A good friend of mine is thankful for 14 years he spent in prison, because without that time, he would not know Jesus as well as he does.

No, I don't think you should feel a need to be thankful for bad things. But the belief that all things happen for a purpose is usually helpful and will keep a person grounded.
Sometimes it just takes a while to see what good will come out of the bad we're tested with.

Always be thankful for everything good or bad. Why? Because we learn many lessons from bad things and alot of the time the bad things can turn into good things.

Yes we should be thankful for all things. The bad things really make us appreciate the good things and they help us to grow.

You know something, every bad thing has a certain degree of good. Think about it, let's say you are in a desert and you cannot find water. It teaches you to be patient. But I guess there is no need to be thankful. There is no one to be thankful to because only your decision determine how you will end up in life.

I dont think you should be thankful for bad things but rather the good things that come from them

Only if the bad things have a direct causal effect such that something good comes from it, or an important lesson is learned that can increase "good" in the future, or avoid repeating mistakes.

Good question, by the way. Very thoughtful. Bravo.

No. I am not, nor do I think I should be thankful for such things as diseases, accidental death and injury, and crimes committed against innocent people. I know that Paul said we should be thankful for all things, but I believe Paul was wrong and many, if not all, of his writings should be removed from the Bible because they contradict what God/ Jesus said. I am a Christian, not a Paulian. If you believe you should be thankful for all things, explain why you are thankful that some people will go to hell... I am not thankful for that, but I see why God has to do it.
