It of course depends where they are at, but I think 2 weeks is pretty standard. And that depends also if you send it priority or regular for how long it takes to get to the military postal system. However it's very possible things things get lost sometimes and it takes a bit longer. Letters I received from my husband always took about the same time, maybe a little longer.

The military mail system sometimes gets clogged. I have had friends get letters in anything from 10 to 30 days. With the holiday season coming up, packages and letters may experience even bigger delays.

During the first Gulf war I was able to get packages to the spousal unit very quickly by sending them via UPS. Honest to God. I sometimes have a mental picture of a guy in a ballcap and brown shorts pulling that van up to a GP tent and hopping out with his clipboard at the ready....

(btw...the military does not censor incoming mail and hasn't censored outgoing mail since WWII. It is illegal to for anyone but the addressee to open a piece of mail, doesn't matter if you are military or civilian).

Depends on where they are going and coming from. Also if everything checks out OK, sometimes what is being said in a letter must be censored.

It just depends. My husband was in Japan for two years and Iraq for seven months. Sometimes it took a couple weeks, sometimes it just took one week... It's about the same coming and going, though.

I was in Iraq twice and the first time I got mail pretty quick. The second time it was very slow.
