You probably ought to find an experienced rescue in your area and surrender the bird to them. they can get it proper vet care and find a new owner who can afford to take care of him properly.

That should be simple enough for you to answer yourself. Yes, having the wings clipped would avoid a future accident like that! It will also allow you to work more closely with the bird on taming and training. Until you are able to get the wings clipped however, you should either NOT allow the bird out of the cage OR close your window blinds or curtains, shut off any ceiling fans, close the toilet lids in the house and don't have anything cooking on the stove! Also, make sure all the house doors are closed so the little bird doesn't fly right on out because you will not have a very good chance of ever getting the bird back and it will most likely die of stavation or be attacked by another animal. You are very lucky that the bird did not break its neck and die instantly. Get the wings clipped by an experienced person too (pet shop person, breeder or bird vet). Don't do it yourself as you obviously don't have the knowledge to do so.

I get wild birds in all the time with this problem.
Do you know if it injured itself by getting caught on something in the cage?
Is the skin broken?
Is it or has it bled?
Is the wing drooping?
you can email me privately so maybe I can help you. howiee@charter.net

If it's shaking, it's in shock or has a fever. Cover 3 sides of its cage and put a light for heat over the cage. Is the wing hotter than the rest of the body? It may have an infected wing. If so, clean it with Betadine. It sounds like it needs an antibiotic for infection.
PLEASE DON'T WAIT. It can die. If you have an animal ER in your area, ask them if they know of an avian vet.

I'm sorry, there's really not much you can do if you don't have the money to take it to an avian vet...

Keep him in his cage, with three sides of the cage covered in a quite place. Make sure his food and water in on the same level as his perch so he does not have to climb or fly to reach it. Try to keep him cal and talk to him quietly when ever you can...try and somehow find the money to take him to the vet...

I really hope your bird turns out ok...

If the vet say they cant do anything, then it might be a physical problem. Probably due to inbreeding. The budgies parents were probably related to each other and bred. If 2 budgies that are related to each other breed, their offsprings may have lack of body parts or disablities.

These are the two ideas I've come up with:

Gout - causes lameness in budgies. Symptoms: swollen and painful joints.
Feather lice - caused by mites, which damage the breast, back, and wing feathers, making them appear to have chewed edges.

It could be due to trauma or feathers not developing correctly. If you can't afford an avian vet, make payment arrangements. Good luck and I hope your sweet bird gets better.
