I guess you are talking about an adult hen, or a chick? A chick can cost anything from free (if you know a farmer), or 2 or 3 dollars, depending on the breed. An adult chicken can cost anywhere from 4 or 5 bucks to 15 or so if you buy from a hatchery.

If you live in a rural area and just buy a normal hen at an auction or from another farmer, they'll usualy be a couple of bucks, maybe five, it depends on the area you're in.
If you buy chicks from a hatchery they can be from a dollar to five dollars per chick, depending alot on the breed. (fancy/rare breeds are the ones that cost towards five)
Cross breeds of course are worth less.

Couple bucks. Depending on whether you are looking for a show bird or just a layer, but not too much either way. Also, a lot of hatcheries have big purchase discounts, 50 birds, 100, ect.
