i am traveling to new york city for the big new years celebration and being a college student i don't have a lot of disposable income. i don't have high expectations, just mostly a warm place to sleep and a shower. most hotels are booked by now and i was wondering if anyone had any inside info to share.....PLEEEEZE....thanks!!!

I live in this area, but, have never been to the Union Square Inn. It's seems busy when I walk in the area.
I think Another Yahoo!Answers person stayed there.
I have never been inside Union Square Inn. It's very popular.

If you got wheels, you can get some really great off season rates[ like under $75.00/ night] on the Jersey Shore
Check out Days Inn Freehold NJ and see what happens
The plan would be to drive to the Staten Island Ferry dock and take the boat to Manhattan and the Subway to Times Square. Remember it's self -pay parking at the ferry so bring a roll of quarters
If you got the nads just drive to the Jersey shore and see what's available -stay north of Asbury Park Bruuuuuuce !

I had booked a hotel in the city the day before NYE with hotels.com. The hotel was right off Central park for $150. Try this site. There are so many hotels here, they are not all booked especially if you want to stay budget. Good Luck.

I dont think you will have much luck getting anything near Times Square at all. Look into southern Westchester where a train ride is 20 minutes to Grand central station.
