That is why we have Tasers, bean bag rounds, etc. The answer to your question is Yes. We do shoot people who are about to kill themselves, but it is with nonlethal weapons. Even so, this happens rarely as most suicidal individuals will cooperate with officers who have been trained to communicate with them. Seldom do we use these tools, but it is nice to have them when all else fails. BTW speak up in your community for the Taser and other nonlethal tools. Every department should have them.

Not unless you point your gun at them. Then they can shoot to kill. Most cops will usually try to help suicidal persons, there was an article in the newspaper about this state trooper that grabbed this woman as she was jumping of a bridge in the city. An off duty detective went to help him as the woman was pretty overweight, they said that lots of people were walking by this woman and didn't even look at her, or anything. And, as the trooper tried to hang on to the woman, no one else tried to help him keep her up. Luckily the undercover detective saw what was happening and went to help.

This is an interesting question....
Ok. A police officer isn't going to shoot you in the head for you wanting to kill yourself. However, they might, in extreme cases, shoot you in the hand, shoulder, leg, etc....BUT that is lethal force....So, we can use lethal force to stop you, but we don't want to kill you!
Police will, however, protect themselves and others at all cost.
So, this seems silly, but that's how it goes.

Why would I shoot someone for wanting to kill themself? So long as the person doesn't point his weapon at me or an innocent bystander, if he shoots himself, then so be it. I'll do everything in my power to stop him, even tase him if given the opportunity. I won't put my life on the line though.

no, that is just TV, a officer will not shoot your arm, or leg, they shoot for center mass which is your chest and will kill you.

if the suspect looks like he is going to kill someone else, or wouild shoot the officer, the officer may shoot him.

If the suspect is holding a gun and the officer does not know what he is doing with it, ( he is not pointing it at himself) the officer would order him to put it down, and he may shoot if he beleives he is about to be shot.

But if the suspect is pointing the gun at hisself, he could contain the situation and try to talk him down.

It's called Suicide by cop.
Cops are trained to wound and not kill, they shoot for the center of mass, a hip or a leg, not the head.

If your suicide would harm the officers or others, they can act to prevent you from injuring of killing someone besides yourself. There would be no point in killing you to prevent you from killing yourself.

no that would be stupid, because if the person wants to die then there probly not going to care if a cop kills them or not......because they wanna die anyway.
