I've seen people in dressy clothes - suit & tie or an evening type dress - right down to jeans - it's not as dressy as it used to be - it really depends on where you are going before or after the show. I personally would wear a nice pair of slacks and dressy shirt.

Depends on the play and venue. If it's mainstream Broadway fair - i.e. commercial shows like Beauty & the Beast, Rent, Phantom of the Opera - etc. dressing up isn't important. Should it be a private repertory of status, I'd suggest something casual-formal.
However, back to the original point of the question - you can wear most anything to a Broadway Show as time have changed and Broadway show have lost their "elite" status of entertainment.

Anything seems to go these days whether its a broadway show, a ballet, opera or symphony concert. Always better to over dress than underdress though. If in doubt wear black.

You want to dress on the dressy casual side. Jeans are ok if you have a nice top with it. But nicer pants and a nicer shirt will be fine. You don't want to look trashy or over the top fancy, so find somewhere in between.

People come in a wide range of clothing. I'd suggest you wear some neat and comfortable.
