I love both dogs and cats! Some people who just don't know cats seem to think they are standoffish and aloof, But My cat can be quite pushy. Some people think that dogs chew shoes up and you have to get up out of a nice comfy bed to take them out for a walk to go to the bathroom( well that is true) But it just depends on the person and lifestyle and how active the person can be.Wish I could have a little dog as well as my cat but I am no longer able to take a dog out for a walk. Both dogs and cats bring love and companionship into our lives.
Some dog people think that cats can't be taught tricks but that isn't true I had a black cat named Panther who love to play fetch with a foil ball and unlike the dogs he would drop the ball and not make me take it away from him like our Dog Rex did. I taught my cat Gracie how to High five! She loved to High five! She was a south paw (left handed)

You are so right. Each type of animal have their own qualities. I have 1 dog and many cats. I prefer cats, they help relieve high blood pressure, and loveable just as some dogs can be. They can get there own food, even if they are outdoors. They can use the bathroom indoors (litter box) without getting into trouble. One of my cats just jumped up beside me while I am on the computer as she always does. She will sit with me until I am done. They are good companions, just as some dogs are. They don't bark and wake you up in the middle of the night. New kittens don't whine at night or when they are away from their mommy or rest of litter like puppies do. Should I go on!! Don't get me wrong, I love my dog and she is very lovable and just a big ole baby. And that is her name, Baby! Anyone that comes over says so. She wants to be petted and loved and she is protective of her owners and property. And loves people to death and gets along fine with my cats. One of my cats plays fetch also, so I guess it isn't that uncommon. We both have smart cats. Have a good day and keep enjoying your cat(s). It may also be what a person was grown up with. I remember having cats since I was a little girl and that was 40 odd years ago. One lived to be 22 years old. My oldest one now is 14. How about yours?

Hi there...a lot of the comments come from personal experiences and as well ignorance. It's like someone stating that oranges are more sweet than lemons when in fact they probably never realized there are sweet lemons, but (1) never knew this --ignorance and (2) did know but prefer to believe oranges are always sweet and lemons are supposed to be sour because that has been what they've been told repeatedly.

Some people prefer dogs because they think they are more intelligent than a cat. Intelligence is a relative term to the species of the animal as ALL animals have the capacity to learn. Two primary factors will influence accuracy in the interpretation of any test for animal intelligence -- an understanding of the animal's natural history and an understanding of the limits of the test. An animal will naturally show an aptitude for a concept it needs or uses regularly in the wild.

As an animal trainer we discover while we are educated that intelligence has very little to do with how trainable an animal is. Yet, as humans, the subject of intelligence continues to fascinate us.

So both dogs and cats are trainable and neither are more intelligent than one another it's just as you've recognized they are different in their abilities based on their natural behaviours.

I could go on and on with the scientific aspect and the anthropomorphic aspects which are the biggest reason for the dispute.

People will always think that what they have is the best, including dog owners. And it also depends on their lifestyle. Could it possibly be that these dog owners are very active people and want active animals to go along with it? I too love all animals but in my lifestyle I don't have the time to cater to an active dog (which is about 99.99% of them), therefore, I own a indoor cat because it suits my lifestyle. Hence the same reason for dog owners: it suits their lifestyle and therefore think dogs are the best.

Dog owners think dogs are so much better because that is the onlt animal they have had there whole life or they have had a bad experiance with cats and wants to block out the memory because that animal brings bad memorys back to them. But I agree with you.Every animal should be treated the same.

Logic says YOU are right-the facts say you are right -but a true dog lover (of which I am one!) will DIE before we admit cats are good pets because we love the fact they have no concept of time and we are guaranteed a warm welcome, very seldom will they turn up their nose at food.I guess it boils down to ,whatever we do the dog will approve he will defend you with his life if needed and no matter how bad you treat them they still love you.

They are different, and that is why some people prefer dogs, and some prefer cats. It doesn't make either of them better or worse, it's just a preference. I love both dogs and cats, but ferrets are not my favorite animal. But that doesn't mean dogs and cats are better than ferrets....

Because it's true!! You can't train a cat tricks, cats have bad attitudes, they don't love you, they claw you, and they are wild animals. People should have never domesticated the dumb creatures. Dogs are amazing.
